Part Two: GEORGE W. BUSH AND COMPASSION

I have studied the mannerisms, verbalizations and actions of GWB for some years. I now realize that nothing is what it seems to be. GWB may never have studied George Orwell, but he has mastered the arts of Double-Think (holding two separate contradictory thoughts at the same time) and of NewSpeak (in which words rarely mean what they seem or actually represent the opposite of what is represented.)

I find a very disturbing constant element of deception, misinformation, stealth and outright lying in much of what GWB says. This seems to be a political Christian strategy to impose beliefs, practices and dogma upon the public without arousing severe suspicion that proselytization is occurring or that the Wall of Separation between Church and State is being gradually destroyed.

GWB has succumbed to the absolutist mentality of his fundamentalist mentors in which there is only good or evil, but yet in which black may occasionally become white for seductive purposes, i.e., to save souls. For Bush, the end justifies whatever means are necessary.

GWB has been chosen by fundamentalists as their poster boy, for reasons that are not yet completely clear to me. There is nothing in his early record of anything other than being a petulant child of privilege with a powerful daddy who protected him from life.

He adopted the entire political agenda of very peculiar zealots who reward him with total support, large sums of cash, and True Believer fully-committed unconditional votes, regardless of any stupidity, mistaken information, or strange behavior of GWB.

Seemingly, nothing he does now has any effect on their undying support and adulation, due to his promises to accommodate all of their religious issues in his pronouncements. He probably would have to personally stab an orphan in public before some protest was made by his gullible sheep.

Spitting on the Constitution has hardly brought any response from his flock; certainly the killing of Muslims has been gratefully accepted.

He has been presented to True Believers as a species of Messiah, who will help bring the Rapture or Apocalypse, after which all sincere True Believers will waft off to some paradisiacal but non-specific geographical situation, while all others will delight the apostles of morality with their eternal screams by GWB-like abuse and torture methods designed to inflict maximum pain and suffering upon confessing their unforgivable sins.

GWB probably believes he is doing people a favor by torture and abuse, as the sooner they confess the sooner they will be mercifully strangled before being burned at stake.

GWB seduced many people into voting for him by alleging that he was going to be a “compassionate conservative.” Who would not approve of a chief executive being kind, gentle, and compassionate?

Who would not approve of helping the poor, unfortunate, homeless, alcoholic, drug-riddled, disabled, aged, sick, starving and all people in remediable pain?

Certainly, if one takes the ordinary dictionary definitions of “compassionate,” it is highly desirable. Most of the great organized religions of the world speak highly of compassion.

Buddhists and Islamists have very specific and frequent references to compassion and many Christian televangelists prate incessantly of compassion while simultaneously begging for “seed” money.

For GWB, who speaks in coded words for his fundamentalist supporters, compassion is a purely religious concept, mainly expressed by Methodist and Baptist devotees. It is used as a stealthy and deceptive device for imposing GWB’s beliefs and practices upon the population.

It is a method for proselytizing the nation without seeming to do so.

It refers exclusively to following Christian practice and beliefs in the invisible intangible and divine but unknowable entity in whatever GWB’s alcohol-damaged mind imagines. It is a way of throwing money to zealots to achieve his goals.

All this is linked by GWB to his “faith-based” organization as a means of getting money from the taxpayers into the grubby hands of Christian zealots and as a means of spreading “the word” to people who cannot resist blandishments, hand-outs, and photo-ops.

It is designed to strengthen Christian organizations and gain votes.

Compassion is a tool for GWB to destroy the separation of church and state, to impose fundamentalist control of belief upon government. The Oval Office has been turned, by GWB, into a species of prayer chapel for certain favored Christian sects and as a means of expressing contempt for all other religious expression. GWB used executive privilege to impose Days of Prayer, Under God Pledges, Commandments, National Read-your-Bible, Jesus as Savior, Faith as major philosophy, and a host of other impositions upon the public.

Bush loves to use executive privilege, when Congress goes on vacation, to appoint incompetent cronies, fascist minded attorneys, and totally unsuitable people as “diplomats.” He loves to use stealth and secrecy for all his legislation, appointments, and practices.

Christian proselytizers have been immunized by GWB from any suits, from following employment guidelines, from competing ideologies, and from any contrary legislative action.

Any vestiges of “religious freedom” have been warped by GWB into legal discrimination, which allows no criticism or opposition.

Looking at the actual record of GWB’s acquaintance with “compassion” it is obvious that his religious claims do not match his practice.

I find no trace of “compassion” in torture and abuse, in secret jails, in “renditions”, in Abu Ghraib or other similar situations, in sending missiles into an Arab village and killing a score of innocent civilians, in hopes of snaring some “terrorist.” Bush’s actual record of slowing or destroying terrorism is an abject failure. He has created more terror than any other source.

I find absolutely no trace of compassion in any of the Shock and Awe which murdered thousands of Muslims, I find no trace of compassion in American troops smashing house walls with tanks and crushing the inhabitants.

I find no trace of compassion in our troops holding enormous firepower at the heads of civilians kneeling before their ugly might. I find no trace of compassion in troops shooting a mother in the forehead and then offering orphan children a chocolate bar as compensation for their brutality.

I find no trace of compassion in the sanctions which murdered thousands of civilians by neglect, starvation and other forms of abuse.

I find no compassion in any of the smug swaggering and strutting, or the eternal smirking of GWB when he has accomplished some act of stealth, deception or lying.

He seems especially proud when some dirty trick works or some imposition seems immune. Anyone who studies the actual practice of GWB will find a thousand examples of non-compassion, of pitiless imposition, of brutality, of imposition, and of heedless destruction.

I find no compassion for any of our soldiers that GWB has put at death’s door on the basis of lies. There was no possible “noble purpose” for the invasion of Iraq, for letting Osama bin Ladin escape, or for the Shock and Awe which killed thousands of civilians. But I’m sure Christian zealots find that it was necessary to kill Muslims because of their false religion, crazy beliefs, stupid sacred book, and heathen practices.

I find that compassion plays no part in the proscription that GWB has placed on reporting the dead soldiers arriving home, or the many wounded and maimed-forever troops languishing in under-staffed and under-equipped hospitals or their after-care.

I find no compassion for the families of our soldiers in Iraq living from hand-to-mouth, on the “compassion” of corrupt churches for soldiers.

I find no compassion in the statement of GWB that his war will last for generations, or that his lies, misinformation and deception did not start a war for the glory of his cowardly neoconservatives.

I found no compassion in the behavior of GWB during the Katrina hurricane, but rather an out-of-touch carefree vacationer, who has little concern for anyone but his elite corporate plutocrats and theocrats.

Bush is depending upon personality display of wide smiles, winks, squinting at the TV, smirking, squinting intensely into the TV lens, glad handing, patting people on the back, constant self-promotion and the incessant repetition of 9/11, which for some ungodly reason (pun) he believes gives him the blessing of the Supreme Creator to declare war and bring death and destruction upon innocent peoples and upon sovereign nations but to hold his own people in forms of frightful bondage to his “security” pronouncements.

I have no compassion for a perpetual liar, deceiver, misinformer, petulant child of privilege who exploits every American value to retain his office.

I have absolutely no compassion for a man who surrounds himself with the heaviest security ever seen in America, surrounds himself with fluttering flags, holds up crosses, and is unable to tell the public what “noble purpose” he accomplished by crushing thousands of people in order to get one ugly person out of office and to replace him with his own very ugly cabinet.

Compassion has been superseded by a lust for power, an egomaniacal desire to be liked, a craving for wealth, and the very unwholesome desire to impose his religious beliefs upon everyone in reach of his executive orders, very strange appointments, stacking of the Supreme Court, penchant for appearing to be a courageous warrior and not a cowardly warhawk, and a recent trend to spit upon the American Constitution which formed our nation.

The checks and balances which keep our nation viable, are outrageously rejected by GWB and approved by most of the Republican Senators in favor of his imperial will. At the very least, they give a good impression of being dumb, deaf and blind when our Constitution is spat upon.

Compassion, my hind end!

  • Two phrases sprang out at me: "protected by his father" and "alcohol-damaged." These two probably explain a great deal: whatever slight contact Bush junior had with reality when he was a child has been totally burned out by the drugs and booze he consumed as an adult. I’m pretty sure he still uses them, in order to bolster the illusions he has about the world. Add to that a low IQ (made worse by the drug and alcohol damage) and a cowardly and sadistic paranoid nature, and the rest of his crimes are covered. His "cabinet" (since he was never legally elected) plays up to his illusions, because it gives them power over the rest of America and (they hope) the rest of the world.
