Trade-Exchange Rates International Europe USA

Syria has replaced the dollar with the euro for all of the country’s official foreign currency transactions. The change comes against the background of a political confrontation with the United States. The state-owned Commercial Bank of Syria said it was being done "as a precaution" because of threats from the US against Damascus.

It has also stopped using dollars in the international foreign exchange deals of its private clients. Washington is leading international pressure on Syria for its alleged role in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri a year ago. Damascus denies involvement in the killing. An economist said it appears the Syrian government is moving to prevent its foreign assets from being frozen in the event of a conflict.

  • Well I guess this is the start of the grand show. Were probably going to here alot more talk about Syria now coming out of the White House. I think Iran will be the prize though, I might be wrong. The key thing here is to watch what the Dollar does in coming Days. If it doesnt move much in comparason to other Currancies it will let Us know how urgent they will be in taking care of Syria.
