Deja Ides of March

By Peter Fredson

March 16, 2006

Is it that time again? We realize that for George Bush it has never stopped being that time. The neocon cowardly war-hawks, who love aggression, bullying, preemption, blood and thunder (as long as it does not personally touch them), instead of lust for sex, have lust for power, wealth and world dominion. Back in 2000 A.D. the Leo Straussian fans were convinced that preemptive strikes were necessary on Iraq, Iran, Syria and any others that might have valuable resources and provide bases for expansive imperialism.

For some reason they do not like direct talk with constituents. They prefer secrecy, deceit, stealth, misinformation, twisting of intelligence and outright lies.

They prefer “bushwhacking” as made famous in western movies by some hidden rifleman lying in wait, shooting an innocent cowboy in the head to steal his cows or horses. Less danger of getting hurt that way than in the “High Noon” by standing tall in the middle of a street with a six-gun awaiting some opponent face-to-face for a quick draw show-down.

No, the Bushites would rather stab someone in the back or use a hidden derringer to win a card game as befits personal cowards. But today they are never in any danger. A thousand security men, troops, riot squads, posted everywhere, with another thousand or so waiting in warplanes, helicopters, submarines, destroyers, or other means of ready force, are at the beck and call of the bloodthirsty chicken-hawks.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt spoke of the “infamy’ of the Japanese preemptive strike on Pearl Harbor. Hitler too loved preemptive strikes. Now we have Bush emulating the sneaking, the deceit, and the lies of the preemptors as a new part of Traditional American Values.

Bush cares nothing for American reputation, unless it lessens his cash contributions, but is overjoyed with his Shock and Awe to murder countless innocent people. His Christian Fundamentalists are also overjoyed to see thousands of infidels, apostates, heretics, send to their Hell, so they will back up the cowardly Bush tactics to the last televangelist.

So, today we have the déjà vu of the daily war-dances, saber rattling, and accusations of EVIL toward some smaller nation as a prelude to invasion, destruction, and death. It is indeed eerie to hear the little Black Angel of Death hissing through her lying lips about “mushroom clouds’, about “evil intentions”

We again have the entire Bush cabinet on every available media pronouncing claims of mighty terror and fear from Iran who firmly intend to produce nuclear weapons to wipe out Detroit, New York and Crawford, Texas. Even McCain got in on the act, sensing up-coming elections and his possible candidature.

We have the entire Republican Senate fomenting scare talk, fear-mongering, but especially protecting the full imperial pretensions of Bush under the scam that not giving him power to erode civil rights will somehow encourage “terrists” all over the world to come and attack Americans in their comfortable homes.

His sycophants, like Senator Warner, will move heaven and earth with cunning talk, to protect all of the arrogant claims of Bush that he is above the law, and can spit on the Constitution. They will attempt to stop any investigation about Bush lies or malfeasance or felonies, as they have done for the past 5 years.

Bush at present has nothing between him and impeachment, but his false claims that he will protect all Americans from another 9/11. We know from watching other disasters that this is the greatest lie of all his lies. He will not protect anyone except his cronies.

He will not protect the economy. He will not protect the environment. He will not stop outsourcing our nation’s jobs and property. He will not protect the aged, weak, sick, homeless, or disadvantaged people. He seems to have no idea that he is the greatest creator of terror in the world today, from which most other forms of terror came. Or, he may lack all contact with reality in favor of his positive attitude fantasy in his fine bubble of comfort.

What he will do is make countless idle speeches, strut, swagger, smile, shake hands, pat people on the back, pat little black kids on the head for the photo-op, and roll up his shirt sleeves as though he were actually going to do something. But it’s all fake, all photo-op, all part of Karl Rove propaganda circus. He will continue to voice fear and terror as his main scare tactic to retain some semblance of power.

He will continue to deceive our nation about his intentions with Iraq, about his fake strategy for Iraq, and about his chuckle-headed actions in Iraq which are killing our troops, murdering Iraqis, stealing their resources, and keeping up with the firm intention to rule the world.

Is Bush so imbued with falsehood that he believes his own lies. Does Bush really believe that nobody knows that the neocons planned the invasion of Iraq, Iran and Syria years ago?

Do Bush and little Condi believe that the American public is fooled by their war dances, mushroom clouds, evil intention language, that they really believe Iran has absolutely no claims to producing electricity through nuclear energy, but that they are doing it for irritate the mighty Bush?

Do people really believe that Bush had no previous intention to invade Iran? Do people really believe the protestations of Condi that no diplomacy can dissuade Iran from their plans and that the only way out is by another shock and awe, billions of profits to the military-industrial establishment, death and destruction? Can Bush fool everyone, all the time? Do people really believe that it is about God telling Bush to kill Muslims, or that oil, bases and lust for power is involved?

Today he has plans to invade Iran, using all the pretexts, lies, and propaganda at this disposal, and Condi will lie and hiss daily about our intentions for Iran. He will continue to prate regime change, as long as it does not apply to him or Dick Cheney. He will continue to give away jobs and our resources as long as his cronies can make a profit on the deal. He will continue to claim, like Hitler, that “God is With Him.”

Bush’s loyal fundamentalists will continue to have no clue, as long as they can put up their Ten Commandments in some public place. They will never bother Bush in his murdering and looting forays with other nations or with his dishonesty toward their own nation. They think he will help bring the apocalypse and they will all go singing Hallelujah toward a glorious eternity. So they are of absolutely no help to a democracy.

Most other people can see through the nefarious and dastardly scheming of the Bushites. But I’m worried about all those Republican Senators that seem dumb, deaf and blind to the attack of Bush upon our democracy, to his destruction of the separation of church and state, to his imposition of his own brand of Christianity upon the nation by every means possible, and by his disdain for our Constitution.

A lawless Emperor is the last thing we need in our nation.

Fortunately no tyrant lasts forever. Even Benito Mussolini ended up hanging upside down from a gallows, and Adolph Hitler shot himself. But meanwhile, the populace must live in fear of a fake terror and the domestic terror right here within our borders.

Sic semper tyrannis.
