The New Democratic majority must restore the U.S. Constitution

In going through all 517 photos showing the reactions to many different races either won or lost, the ones showing Senator-elect Jon Tester were the ones that especially hit home. After all it was our test to see whether or not a common man can go on to represent the people he grew up amongst. He was the ‘tester’ to see anyone of us can run and go on to win a senate seat.

We all think that anyone running for an office especially as high as the one he ran for and won that the candidate must come from privilege. Clearly, Senator-elect Jon Tester showed us the complete opposite. It is amazing that an organic farmer whose family owns a conventional farm as well as a butcher shop dared to dream and the dream came true to not only him, but those that elected him. As I was looking at photos of those gathered, for the most part, they were not dressed in three piece suits or fancy dresses, but were dressed like you and me. Now that is surely the American dream. Now any small child growing up in America can honestly believe that he or she can go onto believe that anything is possible.

I fully believe this is what the framers had in mind and as he won on Tuesday, all of them were smiling down from the heavens above. His smile was one that is so hard to describe. If one had to choose a word, it would be victory for the common man. But, it showed all of us that he grabbed the brass ring and won for all of us.

Included in this series of pictures were ones that went down to defeat and they too rose to the challenge to and ran with it.

The saddest pictures were those of Harold Ford Jr. since it was hard to believe those that voted for his challenger Corker were most likely swayed by the use of a racist ad. If that is true, they do need to revisit history to see the many struggles we went through as a nation giving a man like Ford the chance at running for a senate seat. I sure do hope that Harold Ford Jr. will not give up on the American dream and will continue to play an active part in our democracy.

Another sad picture was that of Senator Rick Santorum. Yes, even he deserves a mention here. As I was watching his concession speech in which he lost to Senator-elect Bob Casey as he was congratulating Casey, he said “Please give him a round of applause. Come on give it up and give him a round of applause.” That showed at least some form of honor. I did not find any mean spiritedness about it. While I do not agree with his politics, I do wish him well.

As I was looking at pictures showing Claire McCaskill, my thoughts were of Michael J. Fox. I wonder how he was feeling on election night. Most likely vindicated in some small way, but he chose to step up to the plate and through the firestorm that came after him as a result of it, that was his biggest reward.

As I looked upon the pictures of ordinary Americans celebrating this bran new day, there was a difference in their smile that they were truly liberated. But, liberation will truly be the test of the new Democratic majority in congress and it is up to them to run with it and more importantly deliver it.

Perhaps revisiting both Patriot Acts is one task they should all look at and see what does protect us and what parts were just put in there in reaction to any fear we had five years ago.

They should also take a look at the recent bill signed into law by Bush which is the Military Commissions Act and do away with many of the provisions contained within it such as who can be labeled an enemy combatant, and what forms of interrogation techniques can be used on those labeled terrorists.

This heinous law which does away with Habeas Corpus also includes that it “strips legal residents of the U.S. of their right to challenge their detention in court if they’re accused of being “enemy combatants,” That is one that must be dealt with and done away with if we are to be a transparent democracy. Even my Congressman, Tim Bishop in his debate with his Republican challenger stated, “Why fear a trial?”

Another provision contained within it is this “legalizes U.S. war crimes committed before December 30, 2005” How anyone could have voted for this bill now law which contains that clause, is perhaps one reason they deserved to lose.

Oversight must also be applied to the illegal eaves dropping bill which was also signed into law. That was also done in reaction to fear and played upon our fears. Well this is a bran new day where the Democratic majority must lead with hope.

These are but a few ideas that I have and I am sure that others will write of what needs to be done to restore our integrity as a country.

Americans have been beaten down by threats, fear, tyranny and arrogance and we deserve our own relief. We need the veil of darkness to be lifted and it started with the American people voting for the Democratic agenda. Some will say that we were voting against Bush, but as I went into my voting booth, I prayed for deliverance and hope. I knew through speeches given by Congressman Bishop we wanted to revisit those tax breaks given to the top one percent and that is what I was also voting for.

I only wish God’s speed to the new Democratic majority, but with a little reminder, we will be watching. What many of us do want is a restoration and new life breathed into the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is only through the drafting and implementation of those documents that make us uniquely American.

  • This is a nation of laws. Anyone who disregards the law or seeks to avoid compliance with the law is not a good citizen. Jon Tester will do very well in the den of thieves he’s entering as US Senator, since he already has a proven track record as a scofflaw. he and his family operated an unlicensed butcher shop which, although known to the authorities, was never fined or forced to close down. ( Can you say bribe?) Only when Tester decided to run for the US Senate did he close the illegal butcher shop, knowing that if he didn’t, his opponent would probably have made an issue of it. Gee, Jon Tester is quite a guy!

  • No indictments for treason.....genocide......or for destroying the constitution.....nothing will change till there is war in the streets...JUST LIKE IN IRAQ!!!! The Zionists and Corporonazi stooges has gotten away with it again

  • I too am afraid nothing will change. Pelosi has already taken impeachment off the table. Dean has agreed with the call. It’s immoral to shut down impeachment without investigating. Saddam gets sentenced to hanging for killing 148 people. Bush and Cheney walk free from 650,000 murders. I fail to see the justice in this.

The only ones left who can punch are John Conyers and Henry Waxman. Dennis Kucinich migh buck a little too. Let’s pray the bring the matter to discussion. These imperial terrorists must be brought to justice.

  • Bear this in mind,Any investigation into WHO truely orchestrated the Iraq war,and WHY,would bring up the names of the PNAC group of the mid 1990s.....A BRIEF DESCRIPTION IS:
.........The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) is an American political neo-conservative think tank, based in Washington, DC co-founded by William Kristol and Robert Kagan. The controversial group was established in early 1997 as a non-profit organization with the goal of promoting American global leadership. The chairman is William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard and a regular contributor to the Fox News Channel. The Executive Director and chief operating officer has been Gary J. Schmitt. The group is an initiative of the New Citizenship Project, a non-profit 501c3 organization that has been funded by the Sarah Scaife Foundation, the John M. Olin Foundation and the Bradley Foundation.

Present and former members include prominent members of the Republican Party and the Bush Administration, including Richard Armitage, William J. Bennett, Jeb Bush, Ellen Bork (the wife of Robert Bork), Dick Cheney, Zalmay Khalilzad, Lewis "Scooter’" Libby (who has been indicted by a federal grand jury), Richard Perle, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz. Many of the organization’s ideas, and its members, are associated with the neoconservative movement. PNAC has seven full-time staff members, in addition to its board of directors.

.....Note the extreme percentage of ZIONIST JEWS.....The fact is that this policy is the long term policy of the Zionist state of Israel...to frag the middle east so that no opposition can be mounted against Israel’s BIBLICAL goal of total control of the entire middle east..leading to the ultimate goal of ruling the ENTIRE WORLD from the 3rd temple to be built on the dome of the rock in Jerusalem.....WE ARE THEIR CASH COW and CANNON FODDER,just like in WW1 and WW2

    • THough I am an "independent" and voted mostly Libertarian, with a couple of local REpub votes and several local Dems, I did vote DEM(this time) in my state Voting for SINator AGAINST Talent who took NO stance against his own Run away Party who like LOOSE CANNONS are IMO so far out of control, I Do expect any day they will try and "find" a way to save their sinking Hegemon ship by providing a pretext for another war. I wouldn’t gloat YET though DEms. Those who USED 9-11 for their IMPerilist reaches for Caspian Reserves and Mid East Resource and strategic "full spectrum dominace" control I would quite Imagine have several other Rovian Black Op tricks left yet in their bag of devious devices. IN some ways ask yourself this important question— If you are among the HUGE number of Americans who now believe vote rigging *capability* is much MORE likely than not, why do you think the CONgress was "allowed" to go Dem??/ WHAT really will change? Did you notice how the Warmongering Dems like Clinton and (Independent hahhha sure— Lieberman won anyway?

Yes the Dems need to announce to the country how they are going to stand UP for freedoms enshrined in The BIll and rebuff those who think it is simply a "g-d piece of paper". Most everyone would respect that. But the Dems should not forget that the BIGGEST reason most often sited that allowed the Dems to win was NOT their so called "liberal spending" (yes just like REPUBS) but that people voted for them AGAINST the war including reportedly many independents and some Repubs too. AGAINST wars of Agrression BASED ON LIES. I hope Pelosi hasn’t been somehow comprimised or turns out to be a butt kisser. The War is IMO and MANY AMERICANS opinions ILLEGAL, IMMORAL< and good ol plain UNJUSTIFIED on Ethical gounds. While it appears to have been conducted MOSTLY for economic reasons (as Most all wars are) the Dems are going to have to address "terrorism" with this in mind— and distinguish it from a group of people who largely are simply fighting BACK against a power who has killed MILLIONSof their people over a decade and from whom MILLIONS more may yet die from radiation effects poisoning.

    • "I hope Pelosi hasn’t been somehow comprimised or turns out to be a butt kisser." SORRY......
.......................she is soooooo in bed with aipac(american israeli pol.action committee)I believe she was actually giving a speech to this gang of Zionist sociopaths the day of 9-11!!

    • Well it’s almost a year later. So is our "Constitution restored" now? Feeling more ’freedom’ lately perhaps? Have those that put Israel above the interests of our own U.S.A. been purged from our Feral government? Troops home yet? "federal *reserve*" parasites been reigned in? Manufacturing jobs returned from overseas?......didn’t think so. Dems suck off of the same corporate tit as the Repugs. Ron Paul 2008. America’s Best an maybe LAST hope.
