Health Environment

In a continuing effort to erode the 1994 DSHEA Act the FDA is in the process of taking comments about draft regulations governing alternative and complementary health practices.

They include in their guidance that vegetable juice used to treat a medical condition is subject to regulation as a drug. VEGETABLE JUICE? Energy medicine would also be regulated if the practioner uses devises. So they are going to regulate divining rods, crystals, pendulums, etc, (they omitted mentioning the exact "devises"), however, it didn’t stop them from comparing these to MRIs and other radiation and electromagnetic imaging devises used by western medicine. They want to regulate oils, lotions, and creams used in massage therapy as drugs. So my lavendar massage oil is now going to be a drug?

An alert can be found at http://www.organicconsumers.org/art... with a link to the comment page. Comments are due by April 30th. It has been hushed in without fanfare below the public’s radar. With current events as they are, I guess they felt this was a great opportunity. The document is dated Dec 06. The DSHEA act can be found here http://www.fda.gov/opacom/laws/dshea.html and the draft of the proposed regulation can be found here http://www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98...

I encourage anyone who uses completary and alternative medicine get very familiar with these documents then write your congressional and state reps. The deadline for comment is April 30th so don’t delay.

I realize in the face of the current state of world affairs this may not be a biggie on everyone’s xmas list, however, it is just another chip taken away from us and given to pharmaceutical companies. Last year it was said that over 60,000 people have died from doctor prescribed pharmaceuticals.

While I agree that some regulation is needed as to quality and components of vitiamins to ensure safety and wholesomeness of the product, the FDA is too far in bed with big pharma to be doing this for our benefit.
