Let’s analyse the implications of the British ‘withdrawal’ from Basra Iraq.

In 2003 two SAS soldiers were freed from a jail in Basra by the British military after they were caught “wearing Arab clothes” and “shooting at policemen”. From the car that they were driving, they opened “fire on a police checkpoint, killing one. In pursuit, the police surround(ed) and detain the drivers and (found) the vehicle packed with explosives.”

“That’s right – two members of the British Armed forces disguised as Arab civilians killed a member of the Iraqi police while evading capture” in a civilian car that was filled with explosives. “When the people of Basra rightfully refused to turn the murderers over to the British government, per Coalition ‘mandate,’ they (the British) sent their own men in and released over 100 prisoners in the process.”

If this occurred anywhere else in the world, these two men would have been charged with terrorism, put on a one way flight to Guantanamo Bay, where they would have been tortured by Americans to reveal who they were working for. All of that would have been unnecessary of course since they were agent provocateurs working for the British government to destabilize the region. This is not speculation, this incident has been well documented and it will remain a part of our history.

Keep in mind that these are only two such agents from many that were unlucky enough to get caught. How many of these agent provocateurs the UK and US have unleashed on the civilian population of Iraq is anyone’s guess. Why they have done, and continue to do such a thing, can only be speculated upon. Again, the only ones who truly know the reasons are the governments of the United States and Britain.

As for Basra, now that the British have left the city, what remains behind is “murder and chaos, says Basra police chief”.

The following is a “shockingly critical interview with Basra police chief, Major General Jalil Khalaf. In it, he condemns the ‘chaos’ and ‘mess’ the British are leaving behind. He also describes how women considered ’immoral’ by Shia militias are being murdered.”

The one thing that is extremely disconcerting, beside the complete devastation of Iraq, is what will happen in Iraq now that the British have left Basra.

In an Amnesty International Lecture given on 24 Oct 2007 at Trinity College Dublin, Seymour Hersh, an American Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist and author, stated that he was worried about what would happen once the British leave Basra. During the question period of this lecture he makes the following statement regarding the possibility of a war with Iran:

“What scares some of the smart people I know, is the British pull out, because they’re convinced, that as long as the Brits are there in any prevalence, particularly in the south, which is completely ungovernable by us or any Western province, they’re the hostages, in case of a war. He won’t go to war, the president will not bomb as long as 2,000 Brits and some air base can be seized the next day… the Brits getting out is not a good move, because of that, as long as they’re there, they’re a bar from us doing stuff … isn’t that terrifying”

Considering that both the United States and Israel have stated that they would use Nuclear Weapons when they attack Iran, I would have to agree with Mr. Hersh, this is extremely terrifying.

  • Do you think Brown is stupid, or something? He knows he would be in for the chop if Her Majesty’s troops got cooked, WHEN Bush nukes Iran. Bush is going to nuke Iran, and why pretend that the lunatic gives a damn about Her Majesty’s troops, when he doesn’t even give a damn about his own? Don’t pretend he does, either. Have you never been to Amerikkka and seen their war veterans begging on the streets?

  • Hey, and don’t you worry, HM’s government are past masters at turning defeat into "A Great Victory". Take the route at Dunkirk, for example, that was "A Miracle"; a Great Victory" in getting so many troops back to Britain in one piece. Then we have the most famous military screw-up of all time, the charge of the light brigade at Balaclava; another "Great Victory".

The Charge Of The Light Brigade
    by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
    Written 1854

Half a league half a league,
    Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred:
    ’Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns’ he said:
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

    ’Forward, the Light Brigade!’
    Was there a man dismay’d ?
    Not tho’ the soldier knew
    Some one had blunder’d:
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
    Volley’d & thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of Hell
    Rode the six hundred.

    Flash’d all their sabres bare,
Flash’d as they turn’d in air
    Sabring the gunners there,
    Charging an army while
    All the world wonder’d:
    Plunged in the battery-smoke
    Right thro’ the line they broke;
    Cossack & Russian
    Reel’d from the sabre-stroke,
    Shatter’d & sunder’d.
Then they rode back, but not
    Not the six hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon behind them
    Volley’d and thunder’d;
Storm’d at with shot and shell,
    While horse & hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro’ the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
    Left of six hundred.

    When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
    All the world wonder’d.
    Honour the charge they made!
    Honour the Light Brigade,
    Noble six hundred!

See! That’s how you turn an embarrassing defeat into "A Great Victory", but of course, Amerikkkans can’t do that, so they are going to be spending the next 30+ years self-flagellating.

    • Self-flagellating after they have nuked Iran, that is, because Bush just can’t handle defeat.
