It’s been in the news recently that Barack Obama has accepted and trumpeted an endorsement by former U.S. Senator David Boren, currently president of the University of Oklahoma. He has also appointed Boren to be an "advisor" to his campaign on matters of national security.

With the endorsement from Boren, Obama deserves to lose all credibility with his claim to be "progressive." Here are a few facts about Boren:

1. Boren is a close friend of the Bush family and a member of Skull and Bones;

2. Boren is widely known as the mentor and sponsor of the discredited George Tenet;

3. as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee, in 1991 Boren fast-tracked the nomination of Bob Gates (now Secretary of Defense) as CIA director;

4. In the 80s, Gates had a large role in corrupting the CIA’s analytical division and turning it into a propaganda machine for Reagan; a consequence of this was the surrogate war in Afghanistan and the funding of Islamic guerillas who later metamorphosed into the
Taliban and Al Qaeda;

5. In 2001, Boren campaigned openly for the union-busting "right-to-work" amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution;

6. Boren was one of the most right-wing Democrats in Congress;

7. According to TIME magazine, on the morning of the 9/11 attack Boren and Tenet were having a "leisurely breakfast" together in a Washington hotel; whatever blunders were made by Tenet should be seen as the legacy of Boren.

Boren has flip-flopped in all directions and is loyal to no one except himself. In January 2008, Boren hosted his "bipartisan forum" at OU as he was attempting to promote the independent candidacy of Michael Bloomberg. Boren was hoping to be Bloomberg’s running mate. For 2004 Boren was supporting conservative Democrat Joe Lieberman for the Democratic Party nomination.

After Lieberman dropped out, Boren switched allegiances and hosted Republican Rudolph Giuliani to give a talk at OU. For this he paid Giuliani $100,000 in public funds. At the time, the rumor was circulating that Bush was going to dump Cheney and pick up Giuliani as a running mate. Boren was hoping for a Cabinet office.

Go here for documentation of the $100,000 payment:

After the gay press began to out him and accuse him of sexually harassing his male staff members, Boren resigned from the U.S. Senate in 1994. Later in the 1990s, Boren had a close association with Ross Perot of the Reform Party. In 1995, Boren gave a speech at the Reform Party convention. For 2000 he was a quiet candidate for the Reform Party Presidential nomination. There was a Reform Party committee to draft Boren.

Boren is high in the espionage community. They are masters of deceit. His motive might be to serve the Republicans by infiltrating the Obama campaign and disrupting it. If not, then he has calculated that Obama has the best chance of winning, and he wants to be running mate or score a Cabinet appointment. Boren never stops dreaming. He is always hungry.

Recently it has been reported that OU and other state campuses are unable to make the current debt service payment on the 2005 revenue bonds for capital improvements. This reflects obvious mismanagement. Boren, as president of OU, has been the most influential voice in Oklahoma higher education, but he has never been serious about it. His goal since 1994 has been to work his way back to Washington.

  • Alright, and the alternative? The Clintons have been part of the Third Way movement that has effectively signed onto every Neocon foreign affairs policy in the past 15 yrs.

    Bill’s Project Desert Fox, a ’98 attack on Iraq, was in fact the beginning of the ’03 war. And why did he do it? To satisfy the Neocons prodding him.

    Don’t kid yourself about Boren and Obama. Clinton is the worst choice among the three remaining candidates. Who else talks about obliterating a country? Not even McCain would do that.
