Toledo, Ohio--- On the eve of the 2004 presidential election tomorrow—with the prospect of massive voter suppression and re-count scenarios likely-a coalition of pro-democracy and peace and social justice organizations in Northwest Ohio are demanding that Ohio Republican Party and Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell publicly commit to stop voter suppression. The groups will announce plans to join nationwide demonstration on Nov. 3, the day after the election. People from across Northwest Ohio are invited hit the streets of the Capital-Columbus this Wednesday to protest disenfranchisement and prevent another stolen election. The November 3 Columbus demonstration is planned for noon at the Columbus Statehouse and at 5p.m. at the Columbus Federal Building.

A giant enlargement will be displayed of the letter sent to Secretary of State Blackwell and the Ohio GOP insisting they publicly commit to stop attempts to suppress voters in tomorrow’s election. At the end of the Press Conference the letter will be delivered to the Board of Elections. Speakers at the Press Conference will include Suzie Husami, a University of Toledo student who was among the over 30,000 newly registered voters who were challenged by GOP Party operatives last week. Speakers will Louisa Bechtel of Americans Coming Together and Allessandra Hernandez of the Toledo League of Pissed Off Voters.

Emphasizing health care, education, the direction of US foreign policy, and drawing attention to mass-disenfranchisement and the flaws in the electoral system in the United States. The demonstrations are meant to spark a grassroots dialogue about the real meaning of democracy and the next steps for taking the country back after November 2.
