From Rawa

It was painful news for us to know about kidnapping of our best friend
Giuliana Sgrena in Iraq. She has been a wonderful voice for people of Iraq
and Afghanistan and has tried hard in the past years to inform others about
the plight of Iraqis and Afghans under the so-called "war on terror" camping
launched by the US government.

Giuliana was in Iraq to witness the plight of innocent Iraqi people and show
to the world that the invasion of Iraq by US forces has brought nothing
positive but more pain, sufferings and tragedies for ill-fated civilians. As
a freedom-loving Italian journalist she wanted to uncover those aspects of
the life of Iraqi children, women and men that are usually ignored by other
known Western media.

But the hurting news comes out of Iraq that unknown gunmen has abducted the
best and true defender and friend of suffering Iraqi people. The kidnappers
must know that they have kidnapped a journalist who was risking her life in
Iraq to portray a real picture of what is happening in Iraq under the US
invasion. They should know that our dear Giuliana was standing by millions
of peace-loving people of the world to oppose the war on Iraq. So they
should know that they are badly mistaken to create obstacles for such
conscientious journalists who are working hard in favor of unfortunate
masses of Iraq.

On the behalf of deprived women of Afghanistan, the Revolutionary
Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) condemns such acts of
terrorism and call upon kidnappers to release her soon. We stand side by
side with peace-loving people of Italy and the world and pray for safe and
urgent release of our dear Giuliana Sgrena.

  • Based on some information that came across my desk, Ms. Sgrena, has been kidnapped in a counter-insurgency operation.

Must like the case of Margret Hassan.

  • she must have been telling the truth.truth always hurts.

  • "As a freedom loving Italian journalist......." Interesting, in that if Giuliana Sgrena was free at all, it was thanks to many thousands of dead and wounded American soldiers who freed her parents from Mussolini and his Nazi partners, and then stood guard so Italia would not be taken by that greatest of killers and slavemasters, Stalin, lord of the GULAG.

    • and????????????????????????? what are you suggesting? that since she was born in a free country that she should support tyranny abroad? there wouldn’t even be a USA if it wasn’t for french arms, money and soldiers. does that mean we should take orders from paris in perpetuity? sgrena is a free person following the dictates of her conscience. why do you find that so disturbing? and why can’t you find any sympathy for a person who’s been kidnapped by murderers? i don’t begin to understand your contempt for her.

    • Sgrena has been kidnapped by the very people you say she was trying to "defend". The ugly truth is that the Iraqis are not as stupid as she thought they were. They were well aware that she was just using them as bit players in her own narcissistic, self serving passion play. This is all about her desperately seeking her 15 minutes of "andy warhol" fame. She wanted notoriety, celebrity and possibly "face time" on tv talk shows. What she will get is torment, rape, and possibly a videotaped beheading. The charge against her is "criminal stupidity", and for an "unbeliever" in a muslim country this charge frequently carries a death sentence. I truly hope she is released, but, candidly, that is not very likely. She needs a good beating and a real education in the school of hard knocks, not death. And as for you my fatuous, moronic friend, read the Qu’ran at least twice, read Ibn Ishaq’s"Sirat Rasul Allah", read Bukhari’s Hadiths, read Khadduri’s "Islamic Law of Nations" Google up all the pictures of the slaughter in Beslan, [realize that what happened there was Theologically correct in Islam] and then get back to me.

    • i am so happy that the brave and truth-seeking journalist has been freed. journalist community has every right to be proud of having such great colleages like giuliana among themselves.
but there is also another point in the story very much ignored: defending giuliana by an afghan
organization. it is amzing and really admirable. the afghan govrnment and all media of the country shamelessly kept silence but RAWA comes forward to defend her. can we hesitate to regard it (RAWA) as the true representative of afghan people?
      salutations to RAWA!

    • I would like to draw attention of the one who claims that it was the American who made possible the release of Giuliana just as they freed Italians from the yoke of Mussolini the fascist!
      Really? Are you serious?
They “freed” her and afterwards were so cautious not waste time to shot her!
Some Americans who are wrongly called imperialists, are wonderfully good Rambos who first “free” the people desiring freedom and then shoot them of course in a friendly style!
The blood of nearly two millions innocent Iraqis also illustrates the humane face of the US government and its supporters!
