Rebel MP George Galloway’s Respect Party claimed today that evidence that he profited from Saddam Hussein’s regime was forged.

Ahead of Mr Galloway’s appearance in front of a committee of US senators in Washington, his party said the committee was relying on a counterfeit document created in Baghdad.

It said Mr Galloway’s name had been pasted on to a list of people and companies alleged to have made money out of the Oil For Food programme.

His name appeared in a different typeface to other words on the same line, the print was lighter in colour and Respect suggested it had been stuck on and then the page re-photocopied.

His name also appeared at a slight angle and Respect said that would be impossible on the computerised document unless it had been artificially added.

Mr Galloway’s party said there was a clear link between the list in the Senate Committee’s report and one which appeared in a Baghdad newspaper in January last year.

Respect highlighted the claims of Sajad Ahmad Ali, who has previously claimed to have been involved in forging that list.

Mr Ali said: “We forged this list of names and titles of people who got money from the Ministry of Information, the palace and the Oil For Food.

“We worked for 10 days and then we steamed the papers a bit then dried them out so that they would look old.

“I beg anyone who reads his name in these papers to ask for the original version and check the date of the writing with carbon dating.”

A spokesman for Respect said: “We know forgeries were being produced and one is being used in evidence.

“We don’t have to prove an international conspiracy nor are we alleging one but we are saying that there is a forgery here.

“This is the only documentary evidence. The question to the committee should be what steps did they take to verify this document?

“The actual first document, we don’t know where it is, they don’t know where it is and all they have is a photocopy handed over by an unnamed source.”

The UN-backed Oil For Food scheme enabled Saddam Hussein to export oil to pay for essential humanitarian goo help the Iraqi people cope with sanctions imposed in 1991. Theell its oil for cash.

Saddam sold the vouchers at below market prices to favoured parties who were able to sell them on at a profit.

The US Senate Committee accused Mr Galloway of receiving vouchers for millions of barrels of oil but he has described the allegations as “absurd” and asked to appear before them promising to “give them both barrels” in what is expected to be a dramatic highly-charged exchange.

  • Expose the smear. Just like Kofi Annan and the oil for food debacle, the White House propaganda machine overseen by the troll Rove is transparent, they cannot even perpetrate a decent fraud. Galloway is a hero, voluntarily walking into a den of liars to expose the truth.

  • GALLOWAY HATES THIS MAN AT THE HEARING,( 100% jewish Zionist agent for Israel AND ON THE COMMITEE TO INVESTIGATE( SMEAR) GALLOWAY
    Who is Norm Coleman?
“God bless America is a prayer, and I believe that George Bush is God’s answer to that prayer.”

That was the welcome Bush received in 2002 from Republican senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota. Coleman has led the senate investigation into George Galloway’s alleged oil dealings.

Coleman was a student radical in the 1960s, organising marches at Hofstra University against the Vietnam War.

Standing for the Democrats, he was elected mayor of the town of St Paul. But almost immediately he began to slither towards the Republicans.

Coleman still supported Bill Clinton for the 1996 presidential elections, but then switched parties.

By 2002 he had won the Republican senate nomination for Minnesota. He was behind his Democrat rival Paul Wellstone in the polls when, on 25 October, Wellstone’s plane fell from the sky and he was killed.

Wellstone was one of very few US mainstream politicians who had spoken out and voted against the Iraq war.

Coleman demanded that the US launch a strike against Iraq even before Bush had publicly supported such a move. Recently, Coleman has been on a crusade against Kofi Annan, the secretary-general of the UN. This is in line with Bush’s anti-UN policies.

  • Oh my God, Bush is brilliant. And you guys have been saying he is stupid! (sarcasm)

TIN FOIL HAT! Booga Booga Booga

  • What moronic fools. Just keep it up. Expend your on idiotic fantasy. We love it.

Your credibility is enhanced with every postoing.

  • what strikes me about this is how the bush administration is dragging newsweek mag through the mud over it’s so - called error and anomyous sources ... looks like the senate has done worse !

  • I think Galloway’s election day comments about the blood on Tony blair’s hands realy hurt Tony’s feelings. Even though Bush doesn’t give a damn about his people, he will not accept a slight against his poodle, hence the current international smear campaign.

    • While Bushco is trying to blame others for what they themselves have done (nothing new there) it is hilarious that their getting some of their own medicine. Galloway’s one-upmanship was supurb. The twit senators all had sheepish looks on their lying faces because they know that it was Bush’s friends and business pals who really ripped off the oil for food program and allowed 1million Iraqi infants to die of starvation just like they still are today (nothing new there). These criminals need to be exposed for what they have done and are still doing in Iraq. The truth will ALL come out and hopefully before the 2006 elections to show all of the sanctimonious Bush supporter what low lifes their so called leaders are.
