Letter to Corporate Media- About the London Bombings...When will you do your jobs?

To Whom It May Concern:

With all the coverage of the London bombings, it is extremely upsetting to me, but not surprising, that one detail is being left out of every mainstream media article: Visor Consultants, a security consultant firm, was conducting a "terror drill" in the London Underground on July 7, 2005, at the exact same time in the exact same locations that the actual bombs went off. Visor’s Managing Director, Peter Power, discussed this amazing coincidence in two separate interviews on BBC Radio 5 and ITV News on July 7 after the bombings. This amazing coincidence is made even more eerie due to the fact, reported by the Associated Press, that U.S. government intelligence agencies were conducting drills that featured planes crashing into buildings at 8:30 on the morning of September 11, 2001.

I am not one to believe in conspiracy theories, nor am I one to dismiss them outright, but it is interesting that this story has not been investigated or even reported at all by a majority of mainstream media outlets, who seemed to be more than eager to pin the attacks on Al Qaida and Islamic extremists almost immediately, even before any real evidence was discovered. I will be more than happy to believe the "official story" of 7/7 (isn’t it nice of the evil terrorists to plan their attacks on dates that can easily be turned into North American media/government catchphrases like 9/11, 7/7, and last year’s 3/11?) once they can satisfactorily explain so many holes in the story and the contradictory facts that have been reported.

First the explosives were military-grade; now they are homemade. First the "terrorists" were suicide bombers; now maybe they were set up and thought they had time to escape before the timer went off. If they didn’t intend to die but knew they were carrying live explosives in their backpacks, why did they appear so casual and happy as described in the CCTV footage? None of the four suspects fit the profile of an Al Qaida terrorist/suicide bomber, as some of them were not particularly religious and had young families; in addition, as a disabled person myself, it is very hard to believe that a man who worked with disabled children would be so willing to blow up innocent civilians, even if he did believe in the cause. How did their ID and other "personal documents" survive the explosions intact (shades of 9/11 again...Al Qaida must have one hell of a laminating machine), and why were one of the suspect’s credit cards discovered at two of the scenes? Why did the bus bomber go to the back of the top deck of the bus rather than the center of the lower deck, where the most damage would be done, if that was their intention? Why would one of the explosions occur near one of the most heavily Muslim-populated areas of London? There are more unanswered questions, but this is a good start.

Of course, the easy mainstream media answer is to say, "Who knows why they do what they do?" and continue fixing the evidence around the preconceived culprit of "Al Qaida", rather than looking into other possible explanations. Imagine if other criminal investigations were conducted the same way. I can back up my statements with links and facts if necessary; however, I am somewhat doubtful that my letter will be printed due to content and length, but I hope to get some kind of response as to why, as journalists, these stories don’t intrigue you to delve further.

It has been a dream of mine to be a journalist and I have looked into taking the appropriate courses at UWO and elsewhere, but if journalism means that you are forced to regurgitate talking points from Reuters and AP, rather than investigating and discussing alternative fact-based theories, please let me know so I won’t waste my time and money. My heart goes out to the victims, and their families deserve to know the truth. Anything less would be disrespectful and self-serving to the US and UK governments which have already been proven to be liars throughout the Iraq fiasco.
