Elections-Elected Television USA

The Computer Really Did Eat Their Votes, and They Are Still Mad!

The CARTERET COALITION FOR VERIFIED VOTING (CCVV), a non partisan grassroots group announces the release of a video message to North Carolina lawmakers and to the rest of the country:

The message is available online here, watch this compelling reality tv style video:
Windows machines try
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~justin/voti... (this uses Windows Media Player)
Other machines use
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~justin/voti... (this uses Quick-time, doesn’t seem to work on Windows machines well)
(It’s about 7.1MB, so it might take a bit to download if you’ve got a dial-up-type connection.)

Watch and listen to voters describe how they felt about having their vote lost on the paperless voting machines, it is almost like seeing people standing in their yard after seeing their house burn down. These folks are real Carteret people, their votes were permanently lost, and they have a message for the world:

Carteret citizens advise:
"We’re still upset about our lost votes in the 2004 election,
and we want to see some positive action taken that will ensure no
American will ever again have such a problem in the future."

"We urge legislators to pass S 223 promptly, so that every
voting machine will provide a Voter Verified Paper Ballot, and
nothing less."

"We recognize that the implications of what happened here in
Carteret County will resound with other voters on the state and
national level."

Computer scientists recommend that all voting systems have a paper ballot that the voter can view before casting their vote.
This is called a Voter Verified Paper Ballot. The ballot is kept by election officials for recounts and audit purposes.

  • I can’t believe this. I agree 100% with this post (though I didn’t view the QuickTime files).
