Humanitary Catastrophes USA

Establishment charities have history of withholding disaster funds

Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones | September 1 2005

As the aftermath of hurricane Katrina continues to wreak mayhem and havoc amid reports of mass looting, shooting at rescue helicopters, rapes and murders, establishment media organs are promoting the Red Cross as a worthy organization to give donations to.

The biggest website in the world, Yahoo.com, displays a Red Cross donation link prominently on its front page.

Every time there is a major catastrophe the Red Cross and similar organizations like United Way are given all the media attention while other charities are left in the shadows. This is not to say that the vast majority of Red Cross workers are not decent people who simply want to help those in need.

But what the media fails consistently to remember in their promotion of the organization is that the Red Cross have been caught time and time again withholding money in the wake of horrible disasters that require immediate release of funds.

The Red Cross, under the Liberty Fund, collected $564 million in donations after 9/11. Months after the event, the Red Cross had distributed only $154 million. The Red Cross’ explanation for keeping the majority of the money was that it would be used to help ’fight the war on terror’. To the victims, this meant that the money was going towards bombing broken backed third world countries like Afghanistan and setting up surveillance cameras and expanding the police state in US cities, and not towards helping them rebuild their lives.

Then Red Cross President Dr. Bernadine Healy arrogantly responded when questioned about the withholding of funds by stating, "The Liberty Fund is a war fund. It has evolved into a war fund."

Despite the family members of victims of 9/11 complaining bitterly to a House Energy and Commerce Committee’s oversight panel, the issue seemed to be brushed under the carpet and the mud didn’t stick.

The Red Cross’ scandalous activities reach back far before 9/11.

After the devastating San Francisco earthquake in 1989, the Red Cross passed on only $10 million of the $50 million that had been raised, and banked the rest

Similar donations after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the Red River flooding in 1997 were also greedily withheld.

Smaller charities that were involved with the 2004 Tsunami relief project went public to say that large charities like Red Cross and United Way were engaged in secret backroom negotiations with each other that meant a large portion of the donation money was purposefully restricted from reaching the most needy areas affected by the disaster.

The history is clear, the Red Cross and other large so-called charities are in actual fact front group collection agencies for the military industrial complex.

Many informed historians have even alleged that the Red Cross was used as a Skull and Bones cover to overthrow The Russian Czar and pave the way for the rise of the Bolsheviks.

Do not give any money to the Red Cross unless you support the expansion of empire abroad and police state at home. Find a smaller trustworthy organization in the local area of New Orleans and make your donation to them.

  • This has got to be the most absurd and pigheaded article I have seen in a long time. The Red Cross does so much more than respond to specific disasters. They help people on a daily basis, all over the US. To say they are a back room funding agency for the US Military just shows the depth of ignorance displayed by the author of this article.

    • This article is factual about the Big Campaigns, those of us who have know for years, give to local charities. In researching the Red Cross some time ago, I noticed that after a Royal Inquiry In Canada they lost their Blood Supply Services, a major endeavor which helped other funding activities. How,? through lies, deception and deliberate cover ups
The top executives are being sued, as this institution scrambles, spending big bucks to patch up its image.
Ask any WW 2 veteran and they will tell you, The Salvation Army was the number one voluntary agency in meeting their most pressing needs.

    • Please, 204.***.118., read the article again. The article plainly states that the President of the American Red Cross, a Dr. Bernadine Healy was quoted as saying that "The Libery fund is a war fund. It has evolved into a war fund". I for one, will never donate to an organization that has its chief executive stating that they are collecting money for a war machine and not for people in great need. You should be addressing these embarrasing questions to the people who run the American Red Cross, not the reporters who are only informing us.

The American people need to wake up and do their own homework for once. There are really no excuses anymore if you have a computer and are online. Too many times I see through blogs everywhere, that common Americans are more willing to kill the messenger than they are willing to take the little amount of time necessary to see whether any report is valid or not. This might have taken weeks or even months of research to do even a scant 12 years ago. Not anymore. If you know how to Google, or Yahoo, or know how to use any other search engine of note, you should verify quickly, within minutes, whether any report has any measure of validity or not. But wasting your time calling a reporter ’pig-headed’, or ’absurd’ without doing any preliminary research on your part is just plain old intellectual laziness. I for my part will find out more about this report, and will refrain from insulting anyone in the process. We are living in very hostile times and it does not serve anyone any good flinging verbal abuse at people you don’t even know from Adam. We are so quick to condemn and crucify, never taking the time to be civil to one another. Let’s be real Americans again and help each other find the truth. And nothing but.

    • Sorry, but the article is true. Where have you been? There has been scandals galore. I specifically recall the San Francisco earthquake....our entire office donated — only to find out not all funds went where they were supposed to be. Don’t EVEN get me started about where they were SELLING blood and the RC fat cats had to come out with all kinds of apologies....

Ask some of the Vietnam vets who were charged .15 cents for a pencil so they could write home.

The Salvation Army is the way to go.

    • I would never give one cent to the American Red Cross or the United Way. How disgusting it is to see so many corporations and web sites pimping for the RC. The government is the worst for promoting the RC in lew of so many other responsible charitable organizations. Why is it that the RC is always the first to show up and beg for money at disasters and then only provide 10-20 percent of what they collect (at best) to the victims? The RC always seems to have the required $250,000 annual membership fee they pay to belong to the International Red Cross as they beg us for money.

  • Thanks to the Bush administration most of the Americans have to live on a very low income. How could this people - the majority - possibly donate money?
Even if the put Clinton accompanied by the holy spirit out - get it - the American middle class has no money at all.
Bush must rollback the tax reduction of the rich and he also has to stop funding Israel.

Instead airlines which pretend to help getting money from the government much more then they could earn with none flood victims. The Astrodom owners (G.O.P) getting 3.7 millions USD from FEMA each day!

So bad as it is, the victims have to help themselves!

    • The Red Cross is notorious for its greed. Yes, they have all of the reputation for being a world wide charity, but each disaster is another huge 8% of the donations they receive for the charitable cause they are claiming to be funding. They pay their administration outrageous saleries like the C.E.O.s of General Motors, etc., even while they pay NO taxes as a charitable organization. And they have had some "accounting irregularities" I guess some helped themselves to the funds....

The most disgusting thing the Red Cross does is to sell blood. They make huge profits from selling blood, and they had a scandal in the 80’s when Elizabeth Dole was the head of it (if they have a politician as their head you can bet it is rife with corruption), some of their blood products were tainted with aids and they did not notify the receipants of it when they found out about it.

In my family, the Red Cross has lost credibility, when they came to the aid of a one family member, they later sent her a bill for the help she received from them.

The best thing about them is that they are organized and they are there and they are somewhat prompt about coming with their aid, unlike FEMA.

    • I’d like to understand your comments regarding the airlines and Astrodome, but your sentence structure is not clear, it doesn’t make sense. Your comment regarding the American middle class however is erroneous. I have worked closely with families in a large American public school system for most of my carreer, and it is simply unfounded.

    • Alex Jones is absolutely 100% correct in telling people not to give to the Red Cross bloodsuckers. You may have noticed that the corporate media was pimping for the Red Cross as soon as the hurricane hit the coast and now Bush Sr. and his adopted son, Billy Bob Clinton are on the scene again urging CASH DONATIONS. Just what the Bush and Clinton families need - more CASH, your cash, my cash, they don’t care where it comes from, they’ll take it.

Bush and his daddy are the biggest criminals ever to set foot in the USA. They have flourished because you have on one hand, greedy people willing to fund their atrocities and on the other, ignorant Americans who are their patsies, marks and pigeons. Sit on your fat asses and give your money if it makes you feel any better, but if you take a good hard look at the pictures on TV, you can see clearly that your money is doing NOTHING.

Time to wake up America and arrest the criminals in the White House and elsewhere in the Capitol.

    • Professional sport is the 12th largest industry in the US. They too are skilled at marketing their products. So with the US Open Tennis Tournament underway it was both expeditious and convenient for the Red Cross and the Open to exchange business cards.
So what the deal, well from the rich and famous players, used racquet’s and other spots paraphernalia will be auctioned off to adoring fans and collectors, the funds going to...
So what the bid for Andre A’s jock strap, or perhaps some unmentionables from some of those gorgeous new Russia girls. Serena Williams while adjusting her 40 thousand dollar ear adornments offered $ 100. for every ace she serves the remainder of the season. And then Visa followed suit.
The top male and female stars have all made their mandatory 10 second TV appeals like trained penguins...its all comes under the label of "giving back and.......... "
What we need is social justice, not charity, public relations stunts no matter how well intentioned
      are opportunistic and embarrassing.
