Bush: Katrina Failure = gimme more power

Bush says he may need more power in disasters

He wants Congress to look into whether presidential authority should be expanded in times of catastrophes like Katrina.

Props to SpeakSpeak

Bush wants the power to order the military to arrest people in the US. Currently, the military is barred by the Posse Comitatus Act from arresting people in the US.

Protests can be declared “emergencies” for soldiers to arrest protestors.

Taken in the context of 100,000 dead in Iraq on a war of choice, could those same twisted decision makers allow thousands to suffer and die as an excuse to gain more power? And knowing the Republican Rubber Stamp Congress, you know this is going to happen. In effect we’re looking at the beginning of The Clampdown. In a few weeks? months? Soldiers on US Soil arresting citizens and locking them away indefinitely. Holy shit!

I suggest town hall meetings everywhere, demand airtime on your local ‘public’ radio station- create a Bill of Rights safety zone in your community- get your local cops (who are hopefully good people) on your side.

We don’t need soliders arresting American citizens- ever!
We don’t need to lock away American citizens without a trial.

People argue that good cops wouldn’t take out dissenters. This is not like the Nazis rounding up people and locking them up in camps...... Yet.

JPEG - 6.7 kb

It’s getting very close to that. Local cops won’t burst into someone’s home with a gun, but *some* troops will. Could closed military bases be turned into detainment camps? Just last week on the Floor of the House, Cynthia Mckinney said that in 1987 there was a government plan in case of a black uprising: martial law, detainment camps, using the military against American citizens.

Please send this to all of your Republican aquaintences. Do they buy this bit about the Katrina failure leading to using the military against our own citizens? What about locking away citizens without a trial- why does that make us safer?

Where are the Democrats?

They Voted For The Enabling Act for crying out loud.

Oh, I know. We aren’t supposed to call it that. It’s the Patriotism Act.

Patriots are supposed to say nothing when American Citizens are locked away in prison forever without ever being charged with a crime. Just because Der Leader says they’re bad.

The IV Reich is already here friends.

The Bush lust for power is equalled only by his ego. He is now the emperor of the world, with Karl Rove as the Court Jester. He is even now preparing plans to invade Iran, Syria and Venezuela... trading blood for oil. When he took office and appointed Ashcroft as Attorney, everyone was aware that fascism was on the way... civil rights be damned because the imperial authority of Georgie Bush was paramound. Bush can arrest ANYONE and hold them INDEFINITELY because his attorney told him he is above the law. He can torture and abuse anyone. Not a single Republican Senator has spoken out about his abuses and demanded his impeachment because of his lies that send this nation to war and several thousand of our soldiers to their deaths. Not a word of reproach for Bush. He has immunity from Jerry Falwell and the Christian God who approves of killing Muslims wholesale. The action of some troops in New Orleans was like they were still in Fallujah, breaking down doors, hollering like crazy, pointing guns at people’s faces, and showing extreme arrogance.

Power Manipulators
Saturday September 17 - 22:34 - Posted by 030396ac3855d0d4...

Fear is a great motivator. There are clearly masters of public manipulation in power now. They have no qualms about people dying off to keep power in their hands. If Katrina victims die unnecessarily, it’s no more than collateral damage to the power elite. Just like our dead boys in Iraq, Katrina victims will be used as political capital, then discarded. Bush’s reaction to Cindy Sheehan shows just how much he cares about the war dead. Maybe with New Orleans closer, and the press involved, we can get through to the American people through Katrina.

I applaud the concern of the people posting, but please keep the comments from degenerating into baseless accusations. There are literally thousands of examples of Bush wrong-doing: cronyism (Brown/Albaugh), ineptitude, economic short-sightedness, fiscal responsibility, racism, and poverty creation. We don’t need to get creative. We need to stick to talking points that are uniform across the board. That’s what Bush & Co. have done, to great effect.

If we fight, we need to appeal to the majority in open and rational dialogue, unlike the powers that be, whose use secrecy and snappy slogans to gloss over deeper problems. Evidence of wrong-doing has been laid bare by Katrina. It’s our job to exploit the consequences. Unlike them, we do it to prevent additional loss of innocent lives and block a wicked Administration from doing more harm. The power brokers in Washington will use the loss of life as a method to gentrify the city, plunder our national treasury (selling to the Chinese), and get money to Halliburton, Big Oil and other favored companies.

This may be the last chance for the American people to learn about what Bush has been doing to our country...

The far-right in Ukraine are acting as the vanguard of a protest movement that is being reported as pro-democracy. The situation on the ground is not as simple as pro-EU and trade versus pro-Putin and Russian hegemony in the region. When US Senator John McCain dined with Ukraine’s opposition leaders in December, he shared a table and later a stage with the leader of the extreme far-right Svoboda party Oleh Tyahnybok. This is Oleh Tyahnybok, he has claimed a "Moscow-Jewish mafia" (...)

At first glance, the results of America’s 2012 election appear to be a triumph for social, racial, and economic justice and progress in the United States: California voters passed a proposition requiring the rich to shoulder their fair share of the tax burden; Two states, Colorado and Washington, legalized the recreational use of marijuana, while Massachusetts approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes; Washington and two other states, Maine and Maryland, legalized same-sex (...)

In a 2004 episode of Comedy Central’s animated series South Park, an election was held to determine whether the new mascot for the town’s elementary school would be a “giant douche” or a “turd sandwich.” Confronted with these two equally unpalatable choices, one child, Stan Marsh, refused to vote at all, which resulted in his ostracization and subsequent banishment from the town. HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART IV

PART I PART II PART III If there is one major inconsistency in life, it is that young people who know little more than family, friends and school are suddenly, at the age of eighteen, supposed to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, because of their limited life experiences, the illusions they have about certain occupations do not always comport to the realities. I discovered this the first time I went to college. About a year into my studies, I (...)

PART I PART III PART IV Several years ago, a young lady came into the college where I was teaching to inquire about a full-time instructor’s position in the sociology department. Even as colleges and universities raise their tuition costs, they are relying more and more on adjunct instructors. Adjuncts are (...)

PART II PART III PART IV When The Bill of Rights was added to the United States Constitution over two hundred years ago, Americans were blessed with many rights considered to be “fundamental.” One conspicuously missing, however, was the right to an education. If there is one universal question that haunts all human beings at some point in their lives, it is, “Why do we die?” Death, after all, is the great illogic. It ultimately claims all, the rich and the poor, the mighty and the small, the good and the evil. Death also has the capability to make most human pursuits—such as the quest for wealth, fame and power—vacuous and fleeting. Given this reality, I have often wondered why so many people are still willing to (...)

How much corruption can a “democracy” endure before it ceases to be a democracy? If five venal, mendacious, duplicitous, amoral, biased and (dare I say it) satanic Supreme Court “justices”—John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Anthony Kennedy—have their way, America will soon find out. In several previous articles for Pravda.Ru, I have consistently warned how the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision is one of the (...)

I’ve always been reluctant to answer this question for fear it will discourage conscientious and ethical people from pursuing careers in the legal profession—a (...)
