Review: “Bypass. The story of a road” bypasses Australian Aboriginal Genocide

29 June 2012, 00:12, by Dr Gideon Polya

On pages 246-247, in reference to the "war memorial in Goulburn which, in 1925, partly through the efforts of Mary Gilmore, came to be built on Rocky Hill", "Bypass" mentions Aboriginal Australian Bill Punch, the only survivor as a baby "trying to suckle from his dead mother’s breast" from "a massacre in 1880 in which the rest of his family had been killed in retaliation for the supposed theft of livestock" . According to "Bypass" "He served on the Western Front and died of pneumonia in 1917 after having been wounded twice. God knows what he thought he was fighting for". This is the only part of the book that refers to any actual killing of Aborigines in the region in the Aboriginal Genocide that outstanding, humane Australian writer Mary Gilmore described in horrific detail as an eye-witness. Aboriginal deaths from violence, introduced disease and deprivation in the ongoing Aboriginal Genocide have totaled about 2 million since 1788 - an ongoing carnage for which Apartheid Australia merits Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) as currently applied to Apartheid Israel for its ongoing Palestinian Genocide (2 million Palestinian deaths from violence or war-, occupation- and expulsion-imposed deprivation since 1936) and successfully applied previously to Apartheid Australia- and Apartheid Israel-backed Apartheid South Africa.
