Another theory: Bush was prepared to do his Perot imitation and blew it by dumping his line at a completely inappropriate point. Hey, i love the earpiece theory as much as anyone, but I suspect this is just another example of Bush doing his texas hillbilly act, his man of the people, cut through the crap, get-under-the-hood-and-fix-it routine.
People LOVED the simplicity of it all. The two-party machine (and an unfortunate choice for VP) eventually buried him, but he was big stuff there for a while. Bush has been doing Perot’s material since he ran in the primary in 2000. People buy it.
Except, as far as i remember, Perot never interrupted himself.
