THE AGE OF OBAMA: THE POWER OF HOPE, THE PROMISE OF GREATNESS
By : Jack Random - Saturday January 24, 2009
JAZZMAN CHRONICLES. DISSEMINATE FREELY. The inauguration of Barack Obama as America’s 44th president was a moving and powerful symbol of change. Every citizen and ally who allowed himself and herself to appreciate the moment felt a surge of pride that will not easily abate. We have elected a leader who’s every word, step and breath seems to hold the promise of greatness. Amidst everything that is wrong with our nation and our world – our homes foreclosing, our jobs (...)

Wall St. and the Fed Get Fatter, While Main St. Suffers
By : William Hughes - Monday December 29, 2008
“Wall Street has hijacked the economy for the last twenty some years.” - Richard L. Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer, AFL-CIO The Fed and Wall Street are the real powers in the land. During the financial meltdown crisis in the Fall of 2008, the U.S. Congress acted as a patsy for the fiscal elite. The Fed Chairman, Ben S. Bernanke, and the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Henry M. Paulson, Jr., ordered the politicos to give Wall Street banksters a bailout of $700 billion of (...)

Obama’s “left” cheerleaders and the right-wing transition
By : Solve et Coagula - Saturday November 22, 2008
Obama’s “left” cheerleaders and the right-wing transition 22 November 2008 The increasingly right-wing character of the transition being organized in preparation for President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration in January has elicited expressions of concern from the middle-class "left." This milieu, whose views are reflected in publications like the Nation magazine, played a significant role during the election campaign in promoting Obama’s candidacy and the (...)

“If we would learn what the human race really is...we need only observe it at election time.” - Mark Twain Maybe, it’s the Joe Lieberman effect! He’s in, he’s out, he’s back in the Democratic Party fold again. It is all so confusing. So is the fact that the Philadelphia Phillies, finally, won the World Series this year and the massive financial meltdown by the banksters on Wall Street! Who can know for sure? Here’s what the record shows: Alan (...)

Dumbo in the Living Room
By : Michael D. Morrissey - Sunday November 16, 2008
I voted for Cynthia McKinney because she was the only candidate who sees him (I think it is a he). The others either don’t, or won’t admit it, and I see no significant difference between these two points of non-view. According to polls about a third of the US population (not to mention the rest of the world) think, or at least suspect, that 9/11 was an inside job, and McKinney was the only candidate who has even mentioned the possibility. Of course I’m glad that Obama has (...)

McKinney Stronger in Unexpected Places
By : Michael D. Morrissey - Friday November 7, 2008
( Nov. 7, 2008, http://www.mdmorrissey.info/mckinney ) Cynthia McKinney’s .1% of the vote came from some places that, for me at least, were unexpected. I would not have expected proportionately more Louisianans to vote for her than people in any other state, for example, and though California doesn’t surprise me I would not have thought Maine, Arkansas and West Virginia would come out ahead of New York and Massachusetts. This may be worth some cogitation. I voted for her (...)

By David R. Hey, Prez-Elect Obama: Say “Thanks” to Alan Greenspan!
By : William Hughes - Friday November 7, 2008
“The secret for success in life is for a man to be ready for his opportunity when it comes.” - Benjamin Disraeli In ancient Greece, some of its celebrated playwrights, such as Aeschylus, used a device called the “Deus ex Machina,” in order to resolved a badly tangled plot. Usually, it represented some kind of divinity, whose intervention into the lives of the characters portrayed generally proved fortuitous. In the 2008 presidential election, the winner, (...)

November 6, 2008 WE HAVE HOPE, BUT REAL CHANGE IN AMERICA REPRESENTS AN IMMENSE TASK John Chuckman Already in the press there have been stories of plans to dampen the public’s expectations of Obama. The expectations are undoubtedly beyond being satisfied by any human being. Obama’s bright face, a keen intelligence at work in every expression, represents the greatest hope for change in America since Franklin Roosevelt. Even Kennedy, with all his gifts, did not come close. (...)

President elect Barack Obama has addressed supporters in Chicago after beating John McCain to become the next US president. Below is the speech. Obama: Hello, Chicago. If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer. It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in (...)

HORNY OLD MEN AND FEMININE WILES By Peter Fredson November 3, 2008 It is November and the rutting season for bull moose has begun. They will bellow, wave antlers, paw the ground, and run amuck at the first glimpse of a rival. It is their nature. Or, more aptly, it is nature’s way of reproducing their species. They can’t resist. Although civilization has tamed human desires, it has not obliterated them. Males will still be entranced by female beauty and feminine wiles. Winks, (...)

By David Glenn Cox Surviving to over age 50 is no major accomplishment, in and of itself. It’s only a chance to see things and experience things, and sadly, most of it for the worse. As a child, playing in the sun was not seen as a danger; the polar ice caps weren’t melting, or at least we didn’t know about it yet. Gasoline was .29 cents a gallon and seat belts were a novelty only required in the front seat. But I started life on a wholly segregated, post-World War II (...)

The Bush-Obama-McCain Administration

The Bush-Obama-McCain Administration The period we’re living in now is the Bush-Obama-McCain Administration. Bush obligingly initiated Obama’s bombing campaign on Pakistan. The three of them colluded on the recent wealth transfer (about $840 billion) from the American people to Wall St. The 24 hr/7 days/wk media Wurlitzer distracts us from looking at these white elephants too closely. I’VE DECIDED TO "WASTE" MY VOTE

In a 2004 episode of Comedy Central’s animated series South Park, an election was held to determine whether the new mascot for the town’s elementary school would be a “giant douche” or a “turd sandwich.” Confronted with these two equally unpalatable choices, one child, Stan Marsh, refused to vote at all, which resulted in his ostracization and subsequent banishment from the town. Although this satirical vulgarity was intended as a commentary on the two (...)

HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART IV

PART I PART II PART III If there is one major inconsistency in life, it is that young people who know little more than family, friends and school are suddenly, at the age of eighteen, supposed to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, because of their limited life experiences, the illusions they have about certain occupations do not always comport to the realities. I discovered this the first time I went to college. About a year into my studies, I (...)

PART II PART III PART IV When The Bill of Rights was added to the United States Constitution over two hundred years ago, Americans were blessed with many rights considered to be “fundamental.” One conspicuously missing, however, was the right to an education. If there is one universal question that haunts all human beings at some point in their lives, it is, “Why do we die?” Death, after all, is the great illogic. It ultimately claims all, the rich and the poor, the mighty and the small, the good and the evil. Death also has the capability to make most human pursuits—such as the quest for wealth, fame and power—vacuous and fleeting. Given this reality, I have often wondered why so many people are still willing to (...)

A question I’ve frequently been asked since I began writing for Pravda.Ru in 2003 is, “Why did you become disillusioned with the practice of law?” This question is understandable, particularly since, in most people’s minds, being an attorney is synonymous with wealth and political power. I’ve always been reluctant to answer this question for fear it will discourage conscientious and ethical people from pursuing careers in the legal profession—a (...)
