Thoughts on the American elections
By : Alan Woods - Tuesday November 9, 2004
1 comment
By Alan Woods, London America’s presidential election is over and George Bush won. The result has caused a lot of disappointment, or even despair, both in the USA and on a world scale. On the face of it, the situation seems to justify the most pessimistic interpretation. The President won a clear majority of the vote. The Democrats achieved a huge turnout, but the Republicans managed to get still more. In addition to securing his re-election, Bush now has a much firmer grip on (...)

Coyotes Roam, Not Far from U.S. White House
By : Politicasso - Tuesday November 9, 2004
November 08, 2004 - By Deborah Zabarenko, Reuters WASHINGTON − Coyotes, the rangy animals associated with the American West, have been spotted in the U.S. capital for the first time, sparking gossip in precincts where talk usually turns on politics. "On our way home from a party tonight, my son spotted a coyote trotting amongst the trees," one writer said in an e-mail group for one of Washington’s tonier sections. "One ran across Military (Road). No question, a healthy (...)

It is so important to find out the truth
By : Susan - Tuesday November 9, 2004

by Susan F. Many people will probably say that in this age of terrorism, we cannot have a dispute about who is president. I think there is nothing more important than to do what is needed to get to the bottom of this and to obtain fair election results. This is not a matter that can be ignored this time around. The consequences of a Bush reign could be more serious to America’s future than anything (...)

by Donna LoCicero Election Feedback Please take a few minutes to complete our Election 2004 survey. 1. How did you participate in this election? I made phone calls, canvassed, sent articles to family and friends, fought with my sister, alienated an old friend, talked and read and talked and read and talked some more, I went to rallies, and got my teenagers, friends and family involved. I went to meetings, joined progressive organizations and I gave more money than I ever have in (...)

Who will be America’s NEXT TOP CHRISTIAN? (Jesus need not apply)
By : Jane Stillwater - Tuesday November 9, 2004

by Jane Stillwater In Los Angeles, they have a TV show called "Pimp My Ride". In the red states they have a TV show called "Pimp My God". Jesus need not apply. Am I bitter or what? When I was a little kid, I LOVED being a Christian. Couldn’t WAIT to go to church. I just loved all that stuff about loving one’s neighbor and turning the other cheek. Yeah right. Then slowly I began to see what hypocrites that Christians were. I stopped going to church for a whole bunch of years. (...)

Open letter to Senator John Kerry
By : Donna LoCicero - Tuesday November 9, 2004

by Donna LoCicero Dear Senator Kerry, I’ve figured out that the reason this feels so awful, so surreal isn’t just because we lost. This isn’t loss. Every Democrat knows what loss feels like. This is something worse. This is theft - theft of our sacred right of voting and thereby, the hijacking of our country. I want you to know that even though the mainstream media isn’t reporting much of this, a growing army of people believes this. We are determined to (...)

by Susan I hope Senator Ted Kennedy is aware of the irregularities between the exit polls and the final results. I am sure he would be very interested since last Tuesday on CNN he was speaking as if Kerry had won. I thought that Bush looked a little scared and guilty on Tuesday morning when he was getting in his car with his family to go and vote. His brother once again (like in 2000) said he was sure that George W was going to win. His brother stayed in Florida supposedly to watch (...)

Vote Fraud - Exit Polls Vs Actuals
By : Faun Otter - Tuesday November 9, 2004
by Faun Otter SCOOP EDITOR’S INTRODUCTORY NOTE: Within parts of the U.S. progressive community there is already widespread concern that electronic voting fraud may provide an explanation for the astonishing 8 million vote gain made by George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential U.S. election. Already there a variety of odd phenomena which have aroused suspicions about this possibility: For example: In Florida Bush received a million extra votes, while Kerry received only 500,000 (...)

George Bush claims to be a president for all Americans. He believes that with hard work he will be able to heal the wounds created in this country by an ugly, divisive campaign. I am willing to work towards that end. I too want to heal the damage that has been done to this country over the last four years. Here is all that I require from you and the man you placed in the White House. If this really is the greatest country on earth, the most powerful, the most benevolent, I am not asking for (...)

by Daniel Patrick Welch For several months, one of my brothers, who is a bit prone to hyperbole, kept insisting that speculation about the election was meaningless, basically because it wasn’t going to happen. He was absolutely convinced that the Bush regime would manufacture some excuse to postpone or cancel the election in a bid to stay in power. However, I did not consider his proposal paranoid (for reasons that should now be obvious to the whole world) and in hindsight, even (...)

By JOHN McCARTHY Associated Press Writer COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said. Franklin County’s unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry’s 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct. Bush’s total should have been recorded as 365. Bush won the state by more than 136,000 votes, (...)

Kerry Wins If All Legal Votes Counted in Ohio!

Yes you read that right, Kerry WINS if all legal votes are counted. Provisionals will count even though they are counted late and if the "spoiled" ballots can be won either by a Dem challenge (which they have decided against but maybe can be pressured on) or a citizen lawsuit(probably one or more people from Ohio) to count these ballots, then Kerry can WIN, even though he conceded! If the Republicans seemed to lose but they knew that all the legal votes were not counted you better (...)

The good people of Little Egg Harbor in Ocean County, New Jersey, got a taste of what it must be like living in Fallujah or Gaza City these days. The Intermediate School in the small hamlet was strafed with 20mm cannon fire from an F-16 Fighting Falcon jet on the evening of November 3, 2004. Fortunately, there were no injuries except for the pride of the pilot who had apparently inadvertently unleashed the air assault on the school. The F-16 was attached to the 121st Fighter Squadron of (...)

I’VE DECIDED TO "WASTE" MY VOTE

In a 2004 episode of Comedy Central’s animated series South Park, an election was held to determine whether the new mascot for the town’s elementary school would be a “giant douche” or a “turd sandwich.” Confronted with these two equally unpalatable choices, one child, Stan Marsh, refused to vote at all, which resulted in his ostracization and subsequent banishment from the town. Although this satirical vulgarity was intended as a commentary on the two (...)

HIGHER EDUCATION IN AMERICA: DREAM OR NIGHTMARE? PART IV

PART I PART II PART III If there is one major inconsistency in life, it is that young people who know little more than family, friends and school are suddenly, at the age of eighteen, supposed to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, because of their limited life experiences, the illusions they have about certain occupations do not always comport to the realities. I discovered this the first time I went to college. About a year into my studies, I (...)

PART II PART III PART IV When The Bill of Rights was added to the United States Constitution over two hundred years ago, Americans were blessed with many rights considered to be “fundamental.” One conspicuously missing, however, was the right to an education. If there is one universal question that haunts all human beings at some point in their lives, it is, “Why do we die?” Death, after all, is the great illogic. It ultimately claims all, the rich and the poor, the mighty and the small, the good and the evil. Death also has the capability to make most human pursuits—such as the quest for wealth, fame and power—vacuous and fleeting. Given this reality, I have often wondered why so many people are still willing to (...)

A question I’ve frequently been asked since I began writing for Pravda.Ru in 2003 is, “Why did you become disillusioned with the practice of law?” This question is understandable, particularly since, in most people’s minds, being an attorney is synonymous with wealth and political power. I’ve always been reluctant to answer this question for fear it will discourage conscientious and ethical people from pursuing careers in the legal profession—a (...)
