Why if someone puts forward another way of looking at the problems of the middle east somebody will say that they should stay out of the debate. I am relating my thoughts purely as an atheist & an Englishman , I have great respect for our leaders of many years ago who divided the M.east in the way that they did.Can you imagine if all of the M.east was one country under one ruler it would be worse than the problems we had with the communists , now we have lots of little nasty countries instead of one huge monster & to allow little tiny Israel to be the dominant force with only a population of under 10 million is rather quite funny . Do you honestly believe we in the west would be safer if it wouldn’t be for Israel who keeps the nutters focused & whom we can rely on to take out the countries in the M.east who aspire to be nuclear powers (Osirak).
And as for Iraq , the Iraq we in the west now face is a different Iraq to the one of 15 years ago , from having the largest airforce, largest army , a bevy of scientists working on WMD and a tyrant who if not mad was unpredictable , to a divided country with NO airpower , NO huge army with only a few tanks,
as Maggie thatcher said ’rejoice’.
