In addition to "The asbestos cleanup would have cost in excess of $1 Billion", The buildings were suffering from the same problem the Statue of Liberty suffered. It’s called "Galvanic Corrosion" and, as it’s described, it necessitated the replacement of the buildings.......... at a cost of $5.6 Billion. The properties of these buildings were sold in the quite recent past before 9/11 and they were insured to the hilt in the summer preceeding the disaster.
