> OHIO’S ODD NUMBERS

23 February 2005, 23:02

This article is right on target. I was a volunteer for ACT in Columbus, Ohio, on Election Day and it was a disgrace. The lines were 10 hours long in the poor, mostly Black precincts where I was working. It was a low-tech, genius way to steal en election—choke off the voters one by one. All you need to do is lose a few hundred voters in every precinct, and with the margin of victory so close, you can win. And best of all, those lost votes can never be counted.

The good news is that there is an election reform bill in the Senate sponsored by Senators Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, and John Kerry that would remedy some of the most blatant abuses in our electoral system. Everyone should lobby their elected officials to support it. At least something good can come from the shameful election 2004.
