As a blacksmith who uses steel of unknown composition often,I must test steels to ascertain fitness for sometimes hot tool duty and I have found over many years that steel response to heat is one of the biggest variables,especially when severe duty is called for.The loss of the steel is so strong a red flag to me I have thought alot about how to get steel samples in my hands to see for myself under the old microscope for any clues of twinning.the response of steel to sudden shock.I understand the type of steel used in these girders was shielded and of a high hot strength in anticipation of just such a jet crash fire!
If the steel was sold to China for scrap, or India,these boys are in the hard scrabble biz of working hands to death cutting up ships and stuff,people who’d gladly try to smuggle some out if a great income potential presented itself...what to do,eh?there’s pieces of steel in some mud hovel somewhere that is the hard evidence key to unravelling this thing,if it can somehow be gotten,notarized somehow.China ain’t such a friend of ours anymore and they know how to take samples polished...Anyway,if you read this far,hope to have amused,educated and not mislead or confused...
