It’s just the same here in Britain, where neo-liberalism means cuts to social budgets and increases in military spending and corporate welfare. Here culture is regarded as subversive because it promotes human values and questions the perogatives of societies corporate masters. Only a culture of meaningless, middle class narcissism is promoted, endless television productions that question nothing and challenge nobody, a theatre that provides distraction and apathy, a music industry that can only provide pre-packaged, freeze dried products. Out best playwright is a dissident, the rest are hacks.
