The Big Lie About Valerie Plame

The misinformation being spread in the media about the Plame affair is alarming and damaging to the longterm security interests of the United States. Republicans’ talking points are trying to savage Joe Wilson and, by implication, his wife, Valerie Plame as liars. That is the truly big lie.

For starters, Valerie Plame was an undercover operations officer until outed in the press by Robert Novak. Novak’s column was not an isolated attack. It was in fact part of a coordinated, orchestrated smear that we now know includes at least Karl Rove.

Valerie Plame was a classmate of mine from the day she started with the CIA. I entered on duty at the CIA in September 1985. All of my classmates were undercover—in other words, we told our family and friends that we were working for other overt U.S. Government agencies. We had official cover. That means we had a black passport—i.e., a diplomatic passport. If we were caught overseas engaged in espionage activity the black passport was a get out of jail free card.

  • I’ve looked up Larry’s Bio, and it looks like he’s been out of the Gov’t since 1993. How would he know if she remained undercover or not after that time?

  • You may know Plame personally, but you know little of the case, or of the law Her last overseas assignment was in ’97. She was outed in ’03. The law protected her for 5 years. So, there goes your lie. And if saying that Wilson’s wife was a CIA employee is such an outrage, why did Wilson himself identify her as such on his own CV?
If you want to find lies, go read what the Senate Select Intelligence committee thought of Wilson’s testimony.
It’s frustrating to constantly hear disinformation like this from people like you.

  • notice none of the kooks are around now??? amazing. they continue these twisted realitys until finally, when stretched so tenuously thin and unable to create their alternative universe by force of will, then poof. they disappear, occasionally, spouting out some inanity.

watch out though: their NEXT target = Fitzpatrick. when he doesnt endict rove, they will turn on him with a vengence. stay tuned. and better have somebody else start your car, fitz.

  • After today’s report that a REPORTER supplied Rove with the info AND the apparent fact that Plame’s family and friends knew about her job at the CIA (so, she wasn’t undercover) AND she hadn’t been undercover for over 5 years, all we will hear is the crickets chirping in the night.
