To Peter King and Joe Lieberman: Why hasn’t Osama bin Laden been captured?

As many viewed Keith Olbermann’s blistering on-air commentary of the GOP’s use of an ad to instill fear amongst the ‘gullible’ electorate using both pictures and words from Osama bin Laden, Mr. Olbermann was right to exhibit such outrage in targeting the Republican Party. Mr. Olbermann was correct to target both Bush and Cheney in the use of this ad.

The use of even his image opens up fresh wounds of those that lost loved ones on September 11th, 2001. I consider the use of bin Laden’s image as being that of mental torture which those left behind may as a result start the grieving process all over again. Haven’t these victims been through enough?

For a man who acted as their protector, in the use of this ad, his party has now defiled the very memory of those lost on that perilous day. He used their pain and suffering in a cheap and servile attempt to scare the electorate. In the use of this ad, the GOP acts as if they are the only ones that can protect Americans and that is simply not the case as violence escalates in the Middle East especially Iraq.

If anything, the GOP has put this country more at risk for future terrorist attacks in which many in the intelligence community use the term ‘blow back’.

What the GOP fails to recognize is that many on the progressive side of the Democratic Party have been screaming at the top of our lungs that Bush has failed to protect us when Osama bin Laden has remained a free man. Bush promised to capture Osama bin Laden “dead or alive” which later turned into “I do not know where he is..He is not our problem and is not our priority” That will simply not do.

There are many Democrats that do believe in holding one accountable for their failures. Something is amiss in this country when accountability is not seen as being a priority.

It has now been five years since that horrific day and many are still waiting for Bush to keep his promise and deliver justice. As a result of that day, the casualty rate of American soldiers now stands at 2,800. We must remember that Bush targeted the wrong people in Iraq in which some figures estimate the death toll suffered by innocent Iraqis being as high as 655,000. While Bush discredits this figure, given his past track record for telling the truth, I would tend to believe this figure.

As a result of that horrific day, he has raped the United States Constitution through the Patriot Act and Patriot Act Two. He has just signed into law the Military Commissions Act which strips this nation of Habeas Corpus and “legalizes U.S. war crimes committed before December 30, 2005” I still cannot wrap my brain around a law that protects some from war crimes in this country and neither should you.

Many have chosen to demonize those within the Democratic Party and have labeled them un-patriotic for speaking out against this government. But, again, that is simply not the case when it was a majority of Democrats that stood their ground in defense of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. That is a uniquely American trait. We believe in the words of our founding fathers and it is obvious through the passage of these laws, that those who support them are the ones who are un-patriotic. Dare I say that ripping into the heart of the United States Constitution in which many swear upon a Bible to protect is indeed an act of treason? Think about that.

Americans must remember that patriot blood was spilled and continues to be spilled in protecting the United States Constitution and all the protections that go with it.

In these midterm elections two men who have sided with Bush on numerous occasions and even flaunt their support of him, they too must be held accountable as well for not demanding the capture of Osama bin Laden. There names are Congressman Peter King (R 3rd Cong. Dist., NY) and Senator Joe Lieberman (D (?) Conn.). Both of these men live in close proximity to New York City and I am sure that some of these victims who perished in the Twin Towers came from the state of Connecticut as well as Nassau County, NY. They must be forced to answer Bush’s failure at capturing Osama bin Laden instead of saddling up in support of Bush.

To Mr. King, how dare your party use such an offensive ad to instill fear using the man that struck fear into the hearts and minds of many on a bright summer’s day. I would call using such an ad as an act of terrorism and you must be held accountable. In defense of these victims, you, sir must be defeated.

To Senator Lieberman you have aligned yourself with Bush one too many times and it is you that must be held accountable as well. Lieberman once stated “It’s time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge he’ll be commander-in-chief for three more years," He then went onto say "We undermine the president’s credibility at our nation’s peril." By the way, as he stated this, it was as if he was speaking to Democrats as if he were not one but a member of the Republican Party.

Many do acknowledge that Bush is the commander in chief, but we have every right to distrust him given his propensity to lie to the American people and the United States congress. Our criticism of him does not undermine us, but makes us stronger. Even a former Republican president, Teddy Roosevelt once said, “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

If the both of these men think that using such an ad instills fear, it does not. If both of these men sanction the use of this ad, they too are servile. It once again opens up the debate of and a collective outrage that Bush and the GOP led government have failed in capturing Osama bin Laden.
