To Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, January 18, 2006

I was more than surprised to hear your comment concerning any impeachment of President Bush as I read this column in the (January 15th, 2006) edition of the San Francisco Gate: Anti-war activists take Pelosi to Task which I will be faxing you a copy. When asked of any impeachment of President Bush you stated: “I think we should solve this issue electorally," As the president has usurped our United States Constitution especially the fourth amendment which reads: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” By the time the midterm elections roll around, it may be too late. These illegal wire tappings done under the guise of protecting us from terrorism clearly go against this amendment and it is time both parties hold him accountable.

Why do I say it may be too late? The other day as former Vice President Gore stated: “This legal theory, which its proponents call the theory of the unitary executive but which is more accurately described as the unilateral executive, threatens to expand the president’s powers until the contours of the constitution that the Framers actually gave us become obliterated beyond all recognition. Under this theory, the President’s authority when acting as Commander-in-Chief or when making foreign policy cannot be reviewed by the judiciary or checked by Congress.” If he can overstep our Constitution, it leaves me wondering what other procedures such as an election he can obliterate.

When I stated that both parties should hold him accountable, Mr. Gore cited former Congressman Bob Barr who stated: "The President has dared the American people to do something about it. For the sake of the Constitution, I hope they will." I stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Barr in that statement and in his daring the American people to do something about it; I am now calling upon you as Minority Leader of the Democratic Party within the House of Representatives to call for the impeachment of George W. Bush. I think it is about time that all Democrats call for this and those within the Republican ranks who see themselves as protectors of our Constitution do the same.

There have been leaders such as Congressman John Murtha, Congressman John Conyers, Congress woman Sheila Jackson Lee along with several others who have used the term impeachment in relation to Bush and it is high time that you do the same.

Let us also remember that he lied to congress (which is another impeachable offense) to invade a sovereign country known as Iraq. The causal effect of that illegal invasion has cost the lives of over 2,000 innocent U.S. soldiers and the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis which include women and children. I have seen their very images and it repulses me that Bush thought nothing of lying not only to congress but the American people where these people have been wiped off the face of the Earth.

We have also used such agents such as white phosphorus and depleted uranium and that is unforgivable if you ask me. White phosphorus melts away the flesh to the bone and where depleted uranium causes cancers and birth defects.

If there ever were a president that deserved impeachment it is non-other than George W. Bush.

I will be circulating this letter to you around the Internet and to some within the media.

Sincerely,

Mary MacElveen

  • Great Letter Mary. The question now is, how long do we give Pelosi and the rest of them to act, before they become complicit. Bush keeps on saying, my domestic spying is legal... why aren’t they coming out and calling him a flat out liar? Do we give Nancy another year? Another month? Another week?

    I vote for choice C.

  • You really think you can trust her. She’s all talk to action.

  • Pelosi is not that bad. There is something in American culture about not being negative. Even so it is obvious. Impeachment will not happen! The midterm election will be won by Republicans and independents, which later will support the Republicans. Unless Naders Green party get some recognition by American voters nothing will change. Gore is right when he mentioned the unitarian powers given to the president are a danger.

It is too late. Democracy in America died in 2000 and was burried in 2004. That is also that besides all the fuzz about the American constitution it was never protected enough against coups.

    • .....elephant shit....donkey shit...no difference,it’s all shit!! these 2 parties are really a 1 party "good cop"/"bad cop" scenario....Both controlled by a group of YAHWEH’s "chosen people " whose sole purpose is to CONTROL MANKIND.....since 2000 b.c.

    • Nancy Pelosi took an oat to protect and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is her duty to entroduce articles of impeachment. Not to simply wait for another election. Not that bad is certainly not good enough. Bush and administration are loose cannons destroying the reputation of this country and the economy and ruining it for our posterity. These people are just criminals hiding behind legalese.
