This is an alteration of an old U.S. Western Song: The Streets of Laredo
*********************************
THE STREETS OF OLD BEIRUT

As I walked out on the streets of old Beirut
and I observed bombs results all around,
I spied a poor toddler all wrapped in white linen,
wrapped in white linen and dead on the ground.

"I see by you T-shirt that you’re from the U.S.A."
these words I did hear from a Lebanese boy,
"Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story, my home’s blown to Hell and I feel no more joy"

"Get six embassy guys to bury my mother,
hey!, Condi or Cheney or president Bush.
Throw bunches of roses and thank the Isrealis, that’s all I’ve got left now when shove comes to push"

"Beat the drum slowly and play ’Spangled Banner, and tell me of "freedom" as we walk along,
Throw the sod o’er her and say the sad words now,
she’s just Lebanese, it’s the same sorry song"
