Today in Vancouver, Lawyers Against the War filed torture charges against George W. Bush under the Canadian Criminal Code.

An information was accepted for filing today by the Provincial Court of British Columbia Vancouver Registry charging George Walker Bush with counselling, aiding and abetting the commission of torture by persons know and unknown being members of US Armed Forces against persons known and unknown being detainees at the Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay prisons.

The charges were laid by co-chair of Lawyers against the War—LAW, under provisions enacted pursuant to the U.N. Torture Convention, ratified by both Canada and the United States. The charges concern the well known abuses of prisoners held by US Armed Forces in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba. The charges were accepted by the Justice of the Peace and referred for a hearing to decide whether Bush should be required to appear for trial. The Attorney General of Canada’s consent is required within eight days for proceedings to continue, and the question of Bush’s diplomatic immunity will have to be resolved by the court.

Lawyers Against the War - LAW is an international group of jurists and others based in Canada with members in 14 countries

  • This is not true, Bush is a glorious man, with visions of God, how can you post these...

Shoot, I did it again...man, I thought I was a neo-con for a second...must be all that Limbaugh I’ve been listening to. Luckily I don’t have to listen to kerry anymore.

What? you thought I was a liberal...nope, just an american...imagine that, I can think for myself. You know what, I don’t like this feeling though, I want to learn moral values.

    ahhh, much better.

  • It seems the American citizenry is not going to do anything about the current administrations illegal wars, except vote him in for another four years. I feel the world will not survive another four years of this insanity. It’s a good thing the neighbors to the north are at least trying to do something, although likely to no avail.
