A Vietnam veteran who froze to death alone beneath a railroad bridge on Christmas Eve is remembered in Covington. Joe Young died in single-digit cold a few blocks from a shelter where he had previously stayed and a few days before he was to move into an apartment that had been arranged for him. The Reverend Gregg Anderson of Highland Heights says friends and strangers contributed a total of $2,100 to make sure Young had a decent burial. Joe Young was 57-years old.

It is more than unfortunate that folks are willing to contribute to this man’s burial when all he needed to survive was $50 for a hotel room. Recently I watched these videos about the treatment of our veterans when they return from fighting for our country and I was profoundly disturbed.

The way our government treats these heroes upon their return is...beyond words. The only reason anyone would sign up for the military at this point is by military recruiters fooling the youth. The truth must be told. Please send these movies to anyone who might be considering signing up for the military and this link to anyone who has already signed up.

When I think of all the money collected from good hearted progressive people and given to the Kerry campaign(who then kept the money) or to Dean, or any other organization that continues to ask for money...and then I see what is happening to our veterans upon their return, it seems to me a much better use of money to go directly to the folks who need it. Most of the money in these organizations go to the people who run them, not to people who are poor. This homeless veteran needed $50 bucks for a hotel, instead he froze to death. We have homeless mothers roaming the streets of our cities who need help now. Please, if you have money, go directly to the people who need it. You heart will soar when see the good you can do.
