Dichter’s Law
By :
Uri Avnery - Sunday August 14, 2011
“THE PEOPLE Demand Social Justice!” 250 thousand protesters chanted in unison in Tel Aviv last Saturday. But what they need – to quote an American artist - is “more unemployed politicians”.
Fortunately, the Knesset has gone on a prolonged vacation, three months. For as Mark Twain quipped: “No man’s life or property is safe while the legislature is in session.”
As if to prove this point, MK Avi Dichter submitted, on the very last day of the (...)

Avoid Gaza Flotilla, Israel Warns Foreign Journalists
By :
ETHAN BRONNER - Tuesday June 28, 2011
Israel threatened Sunday to bar for up to a decade any foreign journalist who boards a flotilla seeking to challenge an Israeli naval blockade of Gaza.
Oren Helman, the director of the Government Press Office, sent a letter to registered foreign correspondents here asserting that the flotilla, scheduled to sail this week, was illegal and that participation in it, even as a reporter, was “liable to lead to participants being denied entry into the State of Israel for ten years, to the (...)

Israel says it will again use force to stop the aid (...)

Freedom Riding to Gaza
By :
David Swanson - Sunday June 26, 2011
Fifty years ago, freedom riders traveled by bus into the U.S. South. Now American freedom riders are joining their allies from around the world on a flotilla bound for Gaza. The U.S. ship is called The Audacity of Hope. The heroes on this ship have pledged to sail unarmed and to refuse to use violence. The Israeli military, which continues to illegally blockade Gaza, causing endless suffering to the Gazan people, has pledged to use violent force to prevent the ships getting through. (...)

’Freedom Flotilla 2’ prepares to sail to Gaza in next few days
By :
IMEMC - Friday June 24, 2011
While Israeli and US officials have worked to dissuade the Freedom Flotilla from setting sail to Gaza next week, the flotilla participants have vowed to go ahead with their plan to bring aid and support to the people of the Gaza Strip, who remain under an Israeli-imposed siege that began in 2007.
At a recent press conference by an Israeli naval commander, the commander said he did not believe that the flotilla would contain weapons, and acknowledged that the passengers on the boats are (...)

Our Tahrir Square: DC’s Freedom Plaza on October 6th
By :
David Swanson - Monday June 6, 2011
When other nations’ governments go off track, their people do something about it. In Tunisia and Egypt people have nonviolently claimed power in a way that has inspired Americans in Wisconsin and other states, as well as the people of Spain and the rest of the world.
Washington, D.C., is the weakest point in our democracy, without which state-level reform cannot succeed. Most Americans want our wars ended, our corporations and billionaires taxed, and our rights expanded rather than (...)

BUCKINGHAM PALACE PROTEST AGAINST WAR PRESIDENT OBAMA
By :
London - Tuesday May 24, 2011
Without a trace of irony, President Barack Obama — the commander-in-chief of an empire which straddles the world, who has more than doubled the troops in Afghanistan, who continues to occupy Iraq, who has dramatically escalated a deadly drone war in Pakistan and who is currently bombing Libya — spoke last week of the "moral force of non-violence" and said he "will not tolerate aggression across borders". President Obama is visiting Britain next week. It is important he and the world understand that the wars in Afghanistan and Libya are deeply unpopular here.

STOP THE BOMBING OF LIBYA NOW: PROTEST 19 APRIL
By :
London - Monday April 18, 2011

Britain France and the US have now come clean. The article signed by Cameron, Sarkozy and Obama, and published today in Washington, Paris and London, makes clear the war on Libya is not about protecting civilians but about regime change. Having ignored peace moves from the African Union, NATO is now set on escalating the bombing.
The humanitarian spin they are putting on the operation is exposed by the fact that the Western governments continue to support brutal (...)

On Monday, at noon, on March 28, 2011, a press conference was held in front of Baltimore’s City Hall. Its purpose was to urge the General Assembly of Maryland, currently in session in Annapolis, to fully fund city schools and not to shift the cost of teacher pensions to the local school systems. Fred Mason is a union official. He charged that citizens should be “mad about the federal government misplacing tax dollars for wars.” He shared his views with me on this issue. (...)
