The small amount of gold and silver in private american hands would not help much in a run on the dollar, but the negative public relations such confiscation by the feds would create would be huge (read some of the above posts). The dollar has been destroyed by the washington crowd, yet this very crowd would dare to demand the wealth of all americans to help stabalize that which the washinton crowd has destroyed? If it comes to confiscation of your gold and silver, I suggest you grind the metals to dust, and blow the dust out of you car windows as you drive down the interstate highway at 70 mph. If the neocons want you gold and silver, they had better have a really good vacuum cleaner! Actually, uncle sam already has 8,000 tons of gold in storage. If the dollar dies, a new currency based on those 8,000 tons could be created. Or better yet, keep the dollar for domestic use, and create a seperate gold back currency for foreign transactions. Regardless, stealing the publics small gold and silver holdings would be counter productive, and punish the very people who have warned of the coming dollar debacle.
