> Homeland Security To Confiscate Bank Safe Deposit Box Contents

Okay, let me clear something up to those who would automatically black-ball Diebold (the company I work for):

1. Former CEO Wally O’Dell, not Diebold as a whole, said he would ’do what it takes’ to get Bush re-elected. There is a reason he is no longer with the company. He didn’t make many friends in the banking industry, and I’m sure that statement didn’t make him to popular, either.

2. The SD locks that Diebold manufactures have absolutely NOTHING to do with this! Part of my job is drilling open safe deposit boxes (with Diebold locks installed) for customers who have lost their keys, lock has malfunctioned, etc. There is no "trick" Diebold possesses to opening these boxes outside of our trained skills. Also, the bank does NOT (by Federal Law) possess both keys that are required to unlock an SD lock! Do you know how I know they can’t do this? Because we don’t give them both keys (called the Customer Keys, and Guard Key)...their customers have 1 (actually, a pair of customer keys), and the bank has the other (the guard key). In some newer branches, the bank doesn’t even have a guard key - the lock is set up to be used with only the customer key!

3. I’ll say this to anyone that says, ’Diebold, oh, don’t they make voting machines?’ My reply is ’yeah, but sometimes we make locks’ (with heavy sarcasm), as well all manner of physical security equipment (vault doors, safes, mechanical and electronic locks), ATM hardware and software packages, DVR systems for cameras, alarm panels and equipment, and VATs (the drive-up tubes at a bank). :)
