Limited response capability

Good assembly of information.

The creation of the bourse could lead to greater regional instability as the US tries to shut the Iranians down. In a Catch-22, the Americans can use military force, but it will likely force the price of oil even higher. That would hurt the global economy and force a severe recession.

Dependent exclusively on hard power for so long, the US lacks the means to influence other nations using its soft power. Bush has essentially drained American influence by his incessant militarism. Having cried wolf, his cabal would have a hard time stimulating support for yet another war. To cap off their misery, the US is limited militarily to the point it can’t project power over an extended period. It could lash out, but the drain on the US military from Iraq and Afghanistan is unsurmountable.

Oil exploitation is proving not so easy in Iraq as the Iraqis know why we are there. Similarly, the Iranians would resist any strike as a resource play. Paradoxically, we are supporting Sunnis and the Saudis who’ve linked themselves to terror, so none of the stated goals of the invasion regarding terror have been achieved, if they were anything but rhetorical to begin with.
