> Bush Blows Debate: Talks to Rove in Earpiece!

3 October 2004, 05:59

Just a thought, especially given the comment on Bush’s ’hunching’ over the podium.

It would also be possible to send a narrow acoustic beam directly at the podium. This would have the advantage of being un-interceptible by a scanner, and wouldn’t require Bush to wear an earpiece.

(whoa, really need my tinfoil hat for this one, but we’re just speculating after all)

What about all these regulations specified for the debate? Podiums at a certain distance, height, etc. If you were setting up a narrow-beam speaker system, you’d need pretty precise positioning. And the audience was required to maintain utter silence. And Bush was ’hunched over’. Look at the position of his head when he said "Let me finish".

The only reason I even bring this up, this sci-fi conspiracy theory stuff, is that we’ve seen repeatedly how Mr. Rove is capable of pretty far-fetched stuff. And will do anything. For god’s sake, Bush couldn’t even testify off-the-record without Cheney there to hold his hand (oh, to have been a bug on the wall).

If this is the strategy, then a scanner would be useless, and you would pretty much need to be exactly in Bush’s spot to detect it. Unlikely.

I have to admit I’m in the camp that says Bush was getting cues. This would be the way that I’d do it if I wanted to set such a thing up.
