I believe every President since Ford have used ear pieces. The ear piece allows the Secret Service to warn the President if some event warrants it.
Didn’t anyone see the last season of 24? I mean President Palmer was notified via his ear piece.
As long as the Kerry camp agreed to this and the channel was monitored, it should have been okay.
