I have to wonder about what part of the jaw a .38 projectile hit, because if it hit bone then the explosion would be like being hit with a sledge hammer at full swing. The powder explosion from the round would have blinded and deafened him. The impact of the shot would have knocked him over and KOed him for at least a time. You have to wonder if anyone could hold on to a gun after that sort of hit., a .38 is a big piece of artilery. So if the shot hit the jaw bone and blew it to pieces. knocked him out and he lost his gun --- ok just try to pick up a gun under those circumstances, with partial vision and choaking to death Keep a steady hand for the next shot. OK — just try it out, go to the range and shoot a large coconut with a ,38 wuth the barrel touching, wear muffs and full face shield.... if it was a .22 maybe. Go and try it.
