In order to take our good sons and daughters and turn them into "military material", ready for combat, they first must dehumanize them and the enemies. War is about dehumanizing people. The military is becoming more and more effective at training ruthless killing machines, to do that, they have to kill a part of the soldier. Apparently the most effective way to do this is to expose them to extreme suffering and "training" like this. I think that is fairly self evident if you were as sad as I am to read this article, and then more so to follow through the ensuing discussion. Yes, boot camp is brutally tough, and it has to be. Well, I suppose we can probably chalk this up to more "collateral damage"
