Sembler bankrolled GW Bush’s election and was awarded the Ambassadorship by Bush. It was under Sembler’s watch that the secret meetings in Rome occured and Sembler was an involved party.
So what is the significance of this? Sembler is a close ally of Bush and Cheney and also the head of a Pro-Israel group in the U.S. (Republican Jewish Coalition) which sponsored an ad campaign for the Iraq war which ultimately led to the creation of "Freedoms Watch".
Upon Semblers return from his Ambassador post in Italy, he took up a collection for the legal defense of "Scooter Libby" who was accused of leaking CIA agent Valerie Plames identity to the press.
This was apparent retalitation for her husband, Joe Wilsons, public announcement that the Niger WMD report was false and baseless
