> New Orleans tragedy: The 17th street levee was bombed

All too often the uninformed’s answer to disenfranchisement is to move, get a job, etc. What the uninformed refuse to acknowledge is that moving is not the easiset thing to do. If you are living at a subsistence level, moving to a suburban area is cost prohibitive. It has higher living cost and most likely less public transportation. Not to mention the extensive discrimination in housing and employment. And, for those attempting to educate themselves within the morass of inner-city public schools, simply graduating with good grades is not enough. Most public schools fail to provide even the most basic education, and the graduates are not capable of obtaining more than minimum wage employment. Instead of fixing the curriculum, governments focus on using culturally biased tests to gage how ineffective they are at educating their wards. If you want to see real change, demand accountability for school and curriculum development in urban areas.
