> New Orleans tragedy: The 17th street levee was bombed

There are more minorities who are poor due to where they come from and how our country has treated them throughout history — this is covert discrimination, and the issue is much more complex than many ignorant people realize. Remember, it takes money to make money, and in the beginning the wealthy whites (mostly English) who stole the land from the Indians, took power, land, resources, and therefore had the most money, and still do. The blacks freed from slavery had nothing to start with and were discriminated against and still are. Of all of the false arrests by white police officers where DNA is now showing they are innocent, the majority are black. If for example, you are isolated in black neighborhoods (many whites wouldn’t let them into their neighborhoods) usually near unhealthy environments (power plants, polluting smokestacks, crime), and have little money to access healthy food, and then you’re often accused of crimes you don’t commit that put a blemish on your record that prevents you from being hired on jobs, or you aren’t hired even if you have no record because of your color, etc., moving up the ladder of success can be almost impossible. It is VERY hard to get out of this environment, where you may fear for your life when you have to walk to school, where you are pressured to sell drugs or you die, when you have no transportation, few job opportunities within reach of where you are located, and may be the child of a drug addict so you’re born with health problems and addictions. Until you walk a mile in someone else’s moccasins you should not judge. And the $100 per month per person the government gives to welfare recipients is hardly living on the hog. We give more corporate welfare to big business.
