> The London-Washington Axis Called Into Question

8 January 2006, 00:04

Your views are not held by a large number of Britons. They would be ridiculed by an even larger of Europeans who are fed up of the continued US occupation of their sub-continent.

The pretence of the "special relationship" is upheld by the two-party (really one-party) Labour-Tory oligarchy and is coming increasingly into question by Joe Public. The days when the Yanks were seen as ’liberating’ heroes are long gone and you had better get used to it.

When the present economic crisis becomes so serious and the US dollar is in its final, mortal struggle, Britain’s nation of shopkeepers will have to decide whether it is going to allow itself to go down with its precious ally or allow the Europeans to throw it a life-saver.

During that time don’t expect the Brits to hold any further romantic illusions about where its future lies!
