> The London-Washington Axis Called Into Question

8 January 2006, 02:58

Your comments aren’t backed up by any op polls I’ve seen in Britain, Fidel. Britain is the largest investor in America right now, and Europe is certainly in the top 5. Our economy’s are interdependent, so you better be careful in wishing ill for the American economy. The trade surplus Europe enjoys with America that helps fund the generous welfare programs would evaporate. Then who would Britain turn to to "bail them out" as you put it?

My prediction is the growing economic power of Asia and uncertain military power of China will create a challenge for the West — not necessarily a threat. While economic ties will be forged with Asia, the cultural, historical, and political ties for Europe will gravitate to America. The main issue is the values we share. China is run by a corrupt oligarchy of authoritarian leaders. Europe will find it difficult to form extremely close relations with them, regardless of economic interests.

So a lot of Briton’s hate Bush. So what? They hated Reagan too, and all the same things were said about him. European and British leftists have historically demonstrated an intolerance for American conservative politicians. It’s not enough to disagree, they have to demonize, insult, and vilify. In America, we call that intolerance, and Eurolibs are guilty as charged.

The alliance is bigger than Bush or Blair. I have nothing but contempt for Jacques Chirac and French politics in general, but France has proven to be a valuable ally in Afghanistan and the war on terror in general.

P.S. Kumbaya from America!!!
