The British regime achieved a major victory in parliament yesterday, successfully passing a new anti-terror bill containing an extensive package of new and increased powers for the authorities and new and increased restrictions on the public.
Unfortunately, few ordinary people in the UK are aware of the changes approved yesterday by their elected representatives, because to date they have been barely mentioned in the mass media. How many of them can you list? One of the new laws approved (…)

Washington-November 9, 2005-TomFlocco.com-A November 2, 2001 hand-written memo to Vice President Richard Cheney from former U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Leo Wanta, indicates the White House knew that boxes containing large amounts of U.S. currency were moved from the Philippines seven weeks after the September 11 attacks.
According to U.S. intelligence agents with knowledge of the document, Wanta’s (…) -

NEW YORK At today’s White House press briefing, Scott McClellan was hit with a number of questions about the "ethics classes" the president’s staffers are now attending. But much of the briefing featured efforts by Helen Thomas, at the start, and then other reporters to get McClellan to explain the apparent contradiction between his claims that the U.S. does not torture anyone and Vice President Cheney’s request for an exemption in this matter.
Here are the exchanges (…) -

By Peter Fredson
November 9, 2005
George Bush has a firm grasp on fantasy. He revels in the wonderful work that prayer could do for Katrina, the people who drowned because of his inaction, and the fine way in which his lengthy vacations in Crawford have contributed to cultural conflict and disillusion. While his guitar fondling may not ever win any awards, his rap speeches concerning staying his failed course in Iraq, and his dastardly repeated violation of Iraq (…) -
Borking Alito Requires Democratic Agenda

By nominating a man known as "Scalia-lite" for the Supreme Court, President George W. Bush may have picked a fight he is going to lose, unless the Democrats prove to be losers. The choice of Samuel A. Alito, a right wing stalwart, to replace the moderate Sandra Day O’Connor is at once, audaciously brazen, spit-in-the eye insulting, nakedly partisan and just plain dumb.
Bad News Bush has watched his poll numbers sink faster than New Orleans. Yet, he makes a choice of (…) -
The Soccer Star and the President

If there were a Mount Rushmore of international soccer, Diego Maradona’s face would adorn it. In 2000 he was named by FIFA (the Fédération Internationale de Football Association), along with Pelé, as the greatest player in the history of the sport. But in his native Argentina, Maradona is a lightning rod for love, hate, brutal criticism and passionate defense. He is Muhammad Ali in 1968—if 1968 lasted for twenty years.
Maradona was in the eye of a media storm last weekend, (…) -
Chávez and Maradona Lead Massive Rebuke of Bush

Some aspects of George Bush’s travels have become commonplace, including massive protests, sporadic violence and tight security operations. All of these usual elements—notably the imperial-style arrival of the US president with an entourage of 2,000 people and four AWACS surveillance systems—were present at the Fourth Summit of the Americas in Mar del Plata, Argentina.
But the opposition to Bush and his proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), as well as (…) -

Statement by Congressman George Miller
November 7, 2005
Mr. GEORGE MILLER of California. Madam Speaker, somebody ought to call the cops. Today I am not talking about collusion, corruption and cronyism and the leaking of sensitive classified information that has irreparably damaged the national security of the United States. No, I am not talking about Scooter Libby or Karl Rove, though their involvement in (…) -
