These are tremulous times for the Republican establishment. A poll released this past weekend by Ipsos/Associated Press confirms that Bush’s agenda has slid right off the table and into the trash bin. The president’s popularity has plummeted to a meager 39 percent, the lowest of his tenure. At the center of Bush’s nose dive is the Iraq catastrophe, about which two-thirds of those polled strongly criticized Bush’s handling of the invasion and subsequent occupation. The (…)

Iran: Imperialism’s second strike

U.S. President George W. Bush on the lawns of the White House.
IRAN has played its diplomatic hand deftly. On the eve of the meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on September 24, Iran’s highest authorities let it be known that in case countries which get their oil and gas from Iran vote against it, they might face retaliation. When India did vote with the European Union troika (E.U.-3) that has been fronting for the United States, the Iranian (…) -

"And certainly the glass was beginning to melt away, just like a bright silvery mist. In another moment Alice was through the glass, and had jumped lightly down into the Looking-glass room."
Over a year ago, the comfort of my world severely diminished as I took my journey through the looking glass and discerned the ugly truths about the nation of my birth, the United States of America. “Logic and proportion” certainly seemed to have “fallen softly dead” (…) -

President Bush’s principal adviser Karl Rove is to be questioned again over the improper naming of a CIA official. Mohamed ElBaradei, accused by the American right of being insufficiently aggressive, wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his stalwart work at the helm of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Pentagon official Larry Franklin pleads guilty to passing on classified information to Israel. Just a normal week in politics. But there is a thread linking these events and (…) -
Hollywood Studios must walk the Plank
10 October 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsThe top 6 studios in Hollywood have received a green light from the US Govt. to engage in mob style tactics.
Engaging in the outright theft of scripts and pitched movies by up and coming artists.
Then making movies from those ideas without compensating the original artists.
Then sending the federal agencies after anyone who they deem guilty of lifting $4.00 worth of video/music off the internet of these already pirated works.
Then determining their own booty to be collected.

Binding the Hands of Torturers
8 October 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsWhen the Senate voted this week to bring America’s chain of military prison camps under the rule of law, President Bush threatened a veto. The White House explained his objections by saying the measure would bind the government’s hands. Yes, exactly. The rules would finally bind military prisons to democratic values and the standards of behavior recognized by every other civilized nation. They would bind the government to a code of conduct that will help protect those in the nation’s (…)

Major Business Groups Split With Bush Administration Over Patriot Act
8 October 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentby Michael Sniffen WASHINGTON - Some of the nation’s most powerful business groups are splitting with the Bush administration over whether to restrict the anti-terror USA Patriot Act.
The business groups complained to Congress on Wednesday that the Patriot Act makes it too easy for the government to get confidential business records. That put them at odds with one of President Bush’s top priorities - the unfettered extension of the law passed after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Under orders to whittle agriculture spending by $3 billion, Republicans in Congress propose to slash food programs for the poor by $574 million and subsidies and conservation programs by $1 billion each, The Associated Press has learned.
The plan by Senate Agriculture Committee chairman Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., would reduce farmers’ payments by 2.5 percent across the board, slashing spending by $1.145 billion over five years. That’s half the 5 percent the Bush (…)
