April 27, 2006

As if Iraq isn’t a big enough
mess, the House of Representatives has just voted to ’hold Iran
accountable and support a transition to democracy’. Sound Familiar?
Only this time Iran is a democracy. They just held an election where their president was actually elected by the people. How refreshing.

After
everything that has been exposed...the lies, the profiteering, the long
list of war crimes, 397 ’Representatives’ gave Bush the go ahead on
attacking Iran. Only 21 Patriots voted Nay. Sad to say but these are the only people we can trust...

Baldwin, Blumenauer, Boyd, DeFazio, Duncan, Flake, Hostettler, Jones (NC)
Kucinich, Leach, McDermott, McGovern, McKinney, Oberstar, Obey, Olver

Paul, Rahall, Snyder, Stark, Taylor

The most disappointing aspect however is the
fact that so many of our ’progressive’ leaders in congress voted for
this lie. John Conyers voted yay. Maxine Waters, Murtha, Bernie
Sanders, Lynn Woolsey, Barbara Lee all voted for it. On the hill today
the Progressive Caucus is hosting a hearing on Iraq...

Congresswomen Lynn Woolsey
and Barbara Lee will host a hearing on the Iraq War next Thursday,
April 27, 8:30-11 a.m., in 2325 Rayburn House Office Building. The two
Co-Chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus are continuing to do
what the "leadership" of both parties does not, respond to the demands
of the majority of Americans, who disapprove of current policy.

Lynn
Woolsey and Barbara Lee just voted yay on giving the green light for
war on Iran. I can assure them that the demands of the majority of
Americans are not in accordance with their vote on Iran. We are
supposed to believe that these representatives ’can get fooled again’?
Are they merely posing as the opposition in order to stall for Bush?

At least we have a small vocal group speaking out...

Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Republican,
said the measure reminds him of a 1998 congressional resolution that
called for regime change in Iraq, which he thinks was the first step to
the "very unpopular, expensive" Iraq war.

Rep. Earl
Blumenauer, Oregon Democrat, noted all lawmakers "hate this regime,"
but he favors "strong, smart, constructive, diplomatic efforts" -
characteristics that he says are not present in the bill.
"I am very worried about where this all ends," he said.

"It is bad for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, but there are things that
are worse," such as giving the country a reason to use one, said Rep.
Jim Leach, Iowa Republican.

Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich said the
Bush administration has "made a mess of international relations," with
the war in Iraq. "Don’t we have enough problems in Iraq to clean up
before setting the stage for another conflict with Iran?" the Ohio
Democrat asked.

How is it possible that Bush is still getting away with promoting lies about Iran. How is he even still in office?

  • How come no one in the media or on the Net for that matter, has asked about how much information does the White House have on Congressmen, from both sides of the aisle, that is private information illegally obtained through their unconstitutional wiretapping of several million Americans? Come on, people, wake the fuck up!

This President has access to the private phone messages of all elected officials, not just Congressmen. How easy would it be for this man to coerce, blackmail and TERRORIZE any political figure he cares to destroy, simply by threatening them with disclosing private even intimate information to the public? He personally doesn’t have to do this, he can easily force the Justice Department or the FBI to do this. Why not? He’s done it before to ambassadors and CIA agents.

It is highly likely that the major reason must of these Congressmen are still kissing the neocons’ slimy asses is the simple fact that their private lives have been invaded and have become fodder for the White House to use against them or any other political figure who dares voice a difference of opinion. Why else spend so much time and money obtaining billions of phone records of ordinary citizens? To apprehend ’terrorists’? I don’t buy that for one second.
For one thing, the vast majority of Americans have very little if any contact with Arabs of any nationality, so at best the illegal acquisition of a billion phone records is overkill and a waste of public funds. AT worst it is an obvious grab for power, which is the only reason why this lawless administration has acquired them. The real reason is so obvious that it escapes most Americans: to consolidate their hold on power, to insure that their policies, no matter how unpopular or how counter-productive they may be, are followed through.

Another major reason I find fault with the White House’s power grab of our private telephonic communications is the simple fact that 30 years ago the world was being terrorized by what many would consider to be groups of thugs far more coordinated and sophisticated than Al-Queda: the Baader Meinhoff gang, the Red Brigade and the notorious Black September. All of these groups eventually were hunted down and caught or simply faded away, due mostly to highly competent international law enforcement officials who coordinated their efforts with major intelligence agencies. 30 years ago terrorists were hunted, caught, tried and convicted by competent law enforcement agents WITHOUT COMPRIMISING OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES.
30 years ago there was no need to attack the privacy of millions, no need to coopt the mass media, transforming it into a vast Propaganda Ministry in the process, and most of all, no need for a fruitless and costly war that will soon tear down our economy if nothing is done to stop it.
The White House is basically telling us that it cannot do what the world’s international law enforcement agencies could do 30 years ago. Therefore either the White House is incredibly incompetent or worse, they are as power hungry as Stalin or Mao and no different than Saddam Hussein.

I’ll agree with that. It is also highly likely that some have been set up be blackmailed, like say drugged and photographed with young boys or something. This might be what has shut up what would have been decent congressmen. They could, however, choose integrity above their corrupt job and go public with the blackmail. If they all stood up together and exposed the perpetrators they might actually be able to get back to the business of preserving our constitution.

It also seems apparent that certain Democratic leaders have been installed by the higher ups and are GOP operatives...see COINTELPRO. John Kerry is a very good example. This is also true of so called anti-war leaders, which is why the movement seems to go nowhere because it too is being led by operatives. The CIA learned long ago that all you have to do is install the leaders and the sheep will follow. It is truly embarrassing how well their whole plan has worked too. These guys are not that smart, we should be able to out think them here.

    • Note 1] I’ll go further than your assessment. The Dimocrats and the Repukables are for all practical purposes different wings of the same party, wings that speak to different segments of the population to obtain votes, but once in power, continue on with the same policies of the incumbents, i.e. more power in the hands of the Federal Government (let’s call it what is, an embryonic totalitarian state) and more wealth for those who have always used the Federal Government as their favorite Santa Claus, the first parasites in line at the pig trough.

Note 2] You don’t have to be a brainiac to hold and wield power. World history is nothing but a testament to this fact. But, you’re right about the fact that our political leaders are nowhere near as smart as they think they are. Like the medieval elitists they so closely resemble, they rely more on their use of intimidation, coercion, the threat of force, and their power over the media, something most Americans have no concept of since being decent human beings, they tend to use their competence and their powers of persuasion, important attributes that can only be achieved through honest intellectual and emotional growth, to get their point across. Competence and rational persuasion are attributes the ruling elite rarely ever exhibit since their whole upbringing is devoid of real adversity, just about everything they have, including their education, was handed down to them, without any honest effort on their part. Our political class is not representative of our people, they tend to be the most intellectually mediocre, the least talented of our wealthiest classes, otherwise they would be hard pressed to believe in their own propaganda. I don’t call for one instance the ruling elite’s use of propaganda as a form of rational persuasion. Propaganda is rarely rational and hardly ever is truthful. Propaganda only convinces the ignorant, the confused and those who wish to remain deluded.
Our political class is exactly that: ignorant, confused and forever deluded. They don’t care about their lack of talent or intellectual ambition, so long as they rule.

This was basically the same attitude of the Hapsburgs, the Tudors and the Romanovs. Notice that all of these dynasties have died out, and mostly because the majority of the people entrusted with absolute power, all offspring of these wealthy families, did not have the intellect or competence to run their nations.
Which brings me to this point:
Of what use is a democracy when the voters continue to place in power those whose covert interests are diametrically opposed to theirs? Maybe the world is destined to have only the mediocre and the corrupt to rule and exploit it, which would be a tragic thing.
H.G. Wells once said that "History is a long race between education and catastrophe".
He was absolutely right. To have a real, working democracy a nation needs an educated citizenry quite capable of thinking independently. Anything else is an invitation for catastrophe to win the race outright. It’s the 21st Century, and it seems that catastrophe will win again, like it has done so many times in the past.

  • American soldiers attack Iran and you will die! Also your Nazi troops in Iraq will be wiped out. Ridiculous!

The United Skunks - U.S. - will never attack Iran, because U.S. is bankcrupt and countries like Russia and China will not allow it. Not to tell you, that in that case Pakistans military dictator and oppressor and American friend Musharaf will get a kick. Pakistan has nice ICBM’s and will hit about hundred major United Skunk cities. - Enjoy!
