There has been a noticeable shift in the rhetoric emanating from the proponents of war with Iran, almost certainly due to the perception that armed conflict with Tehran will not be as easy a sell as was Iraq. Iraq is losing up to 400,000 barrels of oil a day due to attacks targeting its oil infrastructure, a senior oil ministry official said.
Assem Jihad, the ministry’s spokesman, said at current high prices on international markets the loss is massive as it amounts to billions of dollars a year.
Jihad said there were 159 major attacks on oil installations in 2006, about one attack every other day.

The real "surge" test is already underway in Iraq and all is strangley quiet on the Middle East front. I suspect it’s a false calm, but the Bushies are smiling in anticipation of telling the Dems "we told you so". I doubt they’ll have that opportunity, however, despite the negative Senate vote on Saturday (which the Reps are crowing about).

Taxi and bus drivers are staging a strike in the northern city of Mosul over fuel shortages.
The strike has almost brought life to a standstill in the city home to nearly two million people.
