It is important to view Kissinger’s advice in his September 10, 1969 memo to Nixon in its appropriate context. The specific circumstances of this advice are these: a first cosmetic withdrawal of 25,000 American troops from South Vietnam had already begun. The Nixon administration faced a decision about further withdrawals, while the president struggled to craft a strategy under which he could coerce North Vietnam into ending the war on Nixon’s terms. Nixon and Kissinger had (…)

Washington, D.C. If you need a boost to your morale, or better yet something to restore your faith in our fast-fading Republic, then I suggest that you make room on your schedule to attend a hearing of the “Out of Iraq Caucus” (Caucus) of the House of Representatives. This Ad Hoc Committee, founded in June, 2005, is chaired by a wonderful, gutsy lady from California’s 6th congressional district, (…) -

4 commentsOctober 2, 2006 — , . . Pentagon sources report that plans for a massive and quick U.S. military evacuation from Iraq have been drawn up — and that they borrow heavily from the U.S. evacuation experience in South Vietnam.
Pentagon and U.S. Central Command contingency planners, fully expecting a major insurgent offensive against U.S. forces in Iraq that will result in a mandatory U.S. military withdrawal, have already identified evacuation staging locations, including from the grounds of (…) -

WASHINGTON - An Illinois congressional candidate who lost both her legs during combat in Iraq said Saturday that President Bush has no real strategy for securing the war-ravaged nation, just political talk designed to appeal to voters.
Duckworth‘s address served as a response to the president‘s weekly radio talk and gave the Democratic Party a chance to showcase one of its strongest candidates as it seeks to regain control of the House in November‘s elections.

Sixth Anniversary of al-Aqsa Mosque Intifada Passes Still Unresolved - by Stephen Lendman
September 28 marked the sixth anniversary of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s provocative visit to the al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem (the Noble Sanctuary for Muslims and Temple Mount for Jews and Christians) that caused the eruption of the al-Aqsa Intifada still raging today with Palestinians on the painful receiving end of most of it. From that time till now, the Israeli (…) -

With elections but little more than a month away, President Bush’s do-nothing Republican majority in both houses of Congress is up for grabs. And, thus, so is a genuine investigation into the Bush administration’s lies, deceit and crimes concerning Iraq — especially its "Chicken Little" clamoring about weapons of mass destruction and ties to al Qaeda that, as we would learn later, didn’t actually exist.
Also requiring investigation, however, is the extraordinary (…) -
The myths and realities of Iraq

AS THE midterm elections approach, Iraq dominates the headlines. In a remarkable misappropriation of history, President Bush is conjuring the ghost of Hitler and outlandish World War II analogies to justify his policies. In the Bush administration’s distorted lexicon, calls for withdrawal are appeasement, and dissent is yet another form of disloyalty.
But if the United States wants to achieve its strategic objectives in the Middle East — after three and (…) -
