"Bush’s lies put these forces at risk in an illegal war of aggression. He treated our military personnel as if they were expendable cannon fodder.."
By Ron Forthofer, Ph.D.
The Bush administration claims that the U.S. attack on and occupation of Iraq is part of the ’war on terrorism’. This claim is highly dubious, to put it mildly.
Before the U.S. attack, there was no substantive connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. In fact, Saddam and Osama bin Laden could be said to have (…)

Pizza, Ice Cream, and the First Amendment (Not Necessarily in That Order)
25 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentI got lucky the other day. (No, I’m not talking about that kind of lucky. What do you think I am, a “family values” Republican at convention?)
What I mean is that I was fortunate to meet a couple of real-life patriots: Stephen and Virginia Pearcy. They’re the folks who live one neighborhood over from me whose recent anti-war displays at their house sparked some, um, discussion — both locally and nationally.
Well, not exactly discussion discussion. More like brainless name-calling and (…) -
$9B Goes Missing In Iraq-Huge Sum Disappears Without A Trace
25 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
3 commentsby Helen Thomas
Profiteering from the Iraq war is not a surprise, especially in light of the Bush administration’s pandering to the military-industrial complex.
But some Democratic lawmakers are concerned that profiteering may have achieved stratospheric dimensions in the case of the $9 billion that is missing from the sale of Iraqi oil. This money was to have been used for humanitarian aid and reconstruction for Iraq.
It seems no one is watching the store. The fund was transferred to (…) -
SOLDIERS GUILTY OF "BRUTAL AND REVOLTING" IRAQI ABUSE
25 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsA MILITARY court today found two British soldiers guilty of abusing Iraqi prisoners in acts depicted in a series of sickening photographs.
The behaviour of Mark Cooley and Daniel Kenyon and two other soldiers was described as "brutal", "cruel" and "revolting" by the military judge.
And he added that the shocking pictures, used as evidence in the trial, had "undoubtedly tarnished the international reputation of the British Army and to some extent the British nation too".
A panel of (…) -
Not In Our Name
24 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsAs George W. Bush is inaugurated for a second term, let it not be said that people in the United States silently acquiesced in the face of this shameful coronation of war, greed, and intolerance. He does not speak for us. He does not represent us. He does not act in our name.
No election, whether fair or fraudulent, can legitimize criminal wars on foreign countries, torture, the wholesale violation of human rights, and the end of science and reason.
In our name, the Bush government (…) -
Paul Bremer and the Looting of Iraq
24 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentI have never met Paul Bremer. Yet like a criminal investigator I have stalked him across Iraq for the past 2-1/2 years. In Baghdad I kept my distance from the "Coalition Provisional Authority." I immediately felt this organization would be a disaster, and I was right.
Since his return to the United States last June Bremer has tried to disassociate himself from his own record. Yet there is now no doubt that Iraq was systematically looted under Bremer’s administration. Like a piano player in (…) -
We’re the Nazis in this game, and I don’t like it. I’m embarrassed and I’m pissed off.

4 commentsOn Sunday the founder of ’gonzo’ journalism, died at the age of 67 of an apparent suicide. Today we are air a Jan. 2003 interview Thompson gave on KDNK in the Roaring Fork Valley in Colorado. An excerpt: "Bush is really the evil one here and it is more than just him. We are the Nazis in this game and I don’t like it. I am embarrassed and I am pissed off. I mean to say something. I think a lot of people in this country agree with me - a lot than that are saying anything...we’ll see what (…)

How Blind Can Christians Be About Bush’s Case For War?
23 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsHow Blind Can Christians Be About Bush’s Case For War? Jim Moore February 23, 2005 It’s no big secret. Conservative Christians (fundamentalists) stand foursquare behind President George W. Bush in his so-called war on terror. They have their reasons.
In his incisive article, The Christian Case for War, Stephen W. Carson tells us that these are some reasons he has gleaned from his talks with people. It is those reasons that he lists in his article, together with his personal refutation (…) -
Freedoms Lost Under G.W. Bush
23 February 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
4 commentsFreedoms Lost Under G.W. Bush Chuck Baldwin February 01, 2005 Supporters and apologists for President G.W. Bush will often assail my assertion that the Bush administration has done more to dismantle constitutional protections of our liberties than any president in modern memory. It seems that these people believe that until federal Storm Troopers knock down the doors of their homes and drag them off to the gulags, they have lost no freedoms. Nothing could be further from the truth. If (…)
