The president of the UN General Assembly has condemned Israel’s killings of Palestinians in its Gaza offensive as "genocide".
Miguel d’Escoto Brockmann also told Al Jazeera he had never believed that the UN Security Council would be able to stop the violence in Gaza and that Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, had practically told the UN to "mind their own business" by continuing the offensive.
"The number of victims in Gaza is increasing by the day... The situation is untenable. (…)

Please allow me to steal a few minutes of your time, and share my feelings.
In the last few days, a small group has been demonstrating in the entrance of an Air Force base in Tel Aviv. The reason we stand there is that this is the place most air force fighters use to fly to their bases around Israel.
We hold signs calling on them to refuse orders to bomb civilians and children. This is one of many demonstrations against the war held by Israelis and taking (…) -

ANNIE LENNOX: I’m for peace

1 commentI’m for peace
Sir, - After reading Yoram Dori’s "An open letter to Annie Lennox" (January 11) I felt despair and anguish at the manner in which the awful war in Gaza is being used to divide the rest of the world between "pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian‚" instead of "pro-peace‚ or pro-war."
In my mind, the only distinction that matters right now, as Palestinian and Israeli lives are being lost and endangered by this violent conflict, is whether you support war or peace. I join hands with (…) -

The world watched in horror yesterday as the conflict in Gaza claimed its latest innocent victims in the rubble of a UN school. Any hopes of reconciliation are being snuffed out as anger spills into protests around the world.
The past two weeks have been a telling indictment of the international community. We have an outgoing US president sanctioning Israel’s military (…) -
The Afghan Scam: Why the U.S. Is Certain to Fail in Yet Another War
15 January 2009 par (Open-Publishing)
1 commentIt’s hard to overstate the magnitude of the failure of American reconstruction in Afghanistan. While the U.S. has occupied the country — for seven years and counting — and efficiently set up a network of bases and prisons, it has yet to restore to Kabul, the capital, a mud brick city slightly more populous than Houston, a single one of the public services its citizens used to enjoy. The problem is not simply that the Bush administration skimped on aid, but that it set up a system to transfer (…)
