The preamble to the Code of Ethics for the Society of Professional Journalists eloquently declares: “...journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues...”
Yeah, right!

I am seething with anger. So much that I am still trembling and having trouble formulating a basic sentence.
Just back from Camp Casey, New York which is at Union Square. Took an extended lunch break, as I had seen that Cindy Sheehan would make a speech there this afternoon at 2pm. A nice little crowd, Cindy was delayed - but there were plenty of people with issues on their minds in the mean time.
Then comes Cindy and within two minutes the police interrupts. They had been (…) -

Cindy Sheehan may be the Rosa Parks of the anti-war movement. But that didn’t stop members of the New York Police Department from marching into the crowd of about 150 people gathered in Union Square Monday to hear her speak and yanking away the microphone.
The NYPD pulled the plug just as Sheehan was calling on the audience not to lose heart in the fight to end the war in Iraq.
"We get up every morning, and (…) -

Speaking in front of more than 500 supporters in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Ms. Sheehan, speaking of Senator Clinton, said, "She knows that the war is a lie but she is waiting for the right time to say it."
Then, as the crowd (…) -
Northwest and Delta executives to make millions from bankruptcies

1 commentBy Jerry Isaacs
Over the last several years the top corporate executives at Northwest and Delta airlines negotiated retirement packages guaranteeing them millions in the event the companies declared bankruptcy and defaulted on their pension payments to employees. Both companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Wednesday, in large measure to escape their pension obligations and seek the bankruptcy court’s backing for sweeping cuts in airline workers’ jobs, wages and benefits. Too Much of a Mystery

John Roberts failed to live up to the worst fears of his critics in his confirmation hearings last week. But in many important areas where senators wanted to be reassured that he would be a careful guardian of Americans’ rights, he refused to give any solid indication of his legal approach. That makes it difficult to decide whether he should be confirmed. Weighing the pluses and minuses and the many, many unanswered questions, and considering some of the (…) -
New Orleans as Potemkin Village One Big Sham
20 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
By DAVE LINDORFF
Three cheers for Maureen Dowd for exposing the sham of President’ Bush’s Jackson Square speech to the nation announcing his "recovery plan" for New Orleans, and a big fat raspberry for the electronic media-and for Dowd’s own New York Times-for failing to mention it in their "hard-news" coverage of the speech.
For those who missed it, Bush, dressed in a pressed, blue, open-collar dress shirt (not "badly tailored" this time), was backed by a beautifully blue-lit St. Louis (…) -
Is the Wartime President a Military Deserter?
20 September 2005 par (Open-Publishing)
2 commentsNow that most Americans recognize the war in Iraq was initiated with lies, it’s important to reconsider President Bush’s military record.
By Phil Vargas
I know, I know, it’s all been said before. But maybe it hasn’t. And it may be worthwhile to revisit our President’s military record in view of the deaths and maiming of thousands of Americans and the billions we have paid and are paying for his war in Iraq.
It is nearly two and a half years since our military invaded and occupied a (…)
